At what age can you use a Pessoa on a horse?
I can't seem to find it on the internet.
Not that I want to use one on Calli, certainly not yet anyway, as she has only just turned 3. But just in mind, for the future.
Thanks
ETS - as in the training system.
I was thinking about 4-5 years old, but was just wondering if there actually was a minimum age.

I wouldnt be lunging at just turned 3 anyway.

I'm not a pessoa fan and certainly wouldnt use them until horse has a base level of muscle at minimum age 5

I used mine on my 4yo and it really helped him but he was a slightly different case as he'd been trained to be a trotter

I agree with this. Lungeing can be quite hard on young horses. IMO is better to long rein if you can.

If you must lunge, could you use loose side reins and build them up?

I have recently started to use one twice a week and have built up to 15 mins on my rising 4 cob to help him build up his back muscle and top line and it is working very well. I work him round the whole school rather than on a circle all the time in walk and trot.

He is mature for his age and very balanced and goes well in it. What I would not do is to use it more in terms of how often or how long than I do for another six months and then go to three times a week.

For him working on the pessola 15 mins twice a week and being ridden for 20 mins twice a week is working well.

I don't know where you have the idea that i am lunging from, lol as i'm not.
I used to put her on the lung and let her have a blast round the paddock on a very large circle, but that was just to get rid of energy. Can't do that now, as of new rule at the yard so she gets longreined or turned out insted.
As i said, was just wondering for the future.
