All your help needed PLEASE

I have recently lost 4 of my pet sheep and had one badly injured in 3 recent attacks by two local dogs. My neighbours horse mysteriously ran through a post and wire fence while he was alone in his paddock sustaining an 12in gash to his leg! The dogs have been seen attacking the sheep and horses but as yet we haven't managed to shoot them. We were shocked to discover that the police are unable to seize these dogs until after a successful prosecution - apparently even if they now go onto attack a child it is still extremely difficult to remove them. The owner is well aware of what his dogs are up to (2 beautiful gun dogs) but thinks he is above the law.
Our last sheep killed, the beautiful Darcy was due to be in a nativity play this weekend and in his name I've set up a Downing St petition to try and get this law changed. We've had to move our sheep from our land as these dogs are frequently out. Our neighbour feels all her horses have to be stabled unless she is there with them. Please help us by signing and showing the majority of dog owner people support responsible behaviour. Many thanks Gillian

I had the same problem unless you catch the dogs attacking the sheep you dont have a leg to stand on, but the owner was so abusive to me and i had witnesses i did him for harrasment and he isnt allowed near me or my animals. I lost nearly all our sheep i just found them dead or dying in the field so took to shutting them in every night but then the dogs jumped in the stabbles and killed them . Good luck with yours it horrible when theres nothing you can do

That really is awful, will sign the petition for sure. We have sheep turned out where I walk my dogs, for the past 3 years the field has been hay, spuds and sprouts, so my dogs have been ok to chase bunnies etc over the field. On Saturday morning there was a electric wire, so I figured the sheep would follow, I spent the next 2 days teaching my dogs (especially the youngest, who has never seen livestock) not to go through or over the fence. This morning the sheep were in the field, so the older 2 were let off and they looked at the sheep then tootled off rooting in the hedge along the footpath, the youngest I kept on a lead until the sheep had moved away into the middle of the field and then released her, this way she was not directly faced with the temptation of the sheep to chase. IT really isnt hard to control intelligent dogs and I cant see why this owner wont acknowledge his dogs behaviour??????

I would contact the local authority (District Council) Dog Warden and explain the problems you are having with the dogs.

If he fails then you are quite entitled to shoot the dogs if they are on your land and I would suggest that if you are not a licenced shooter that you contact your local gun club and ask them to do it for you. (It may also be useful to contact the local firearms police officer and advise him of your intentions so that he can advise you).
 
The police are pursuing this, but with days off, rest days, meetings etc it's taking ages. They are more than happy for us to shoot them but as we don't live on the land and the dogs have been out 4 times since Sept 29th it is very difficult. They were almost caught again (I caught them the first time - long story) last week and would have been shot but the owner turned up and they got away. I really believe their owner finds it all very amusing. Don't get me started!
 
What is wrong with people today, the whole thing is absolutaly disgusting, what a total arshole, it's a shame that the dogs are the ones that will get shot, you no the old saying, there are no bad dogs only bad owners, wont say anymore.

I have had to threaten peoples dogs (usually german sheperds) with a hammer or large metal chisel once in a while when working at their houses, this is because they havent the sense to put the animal outside while I am working, the dog is only doing it's job, it's always the stupid owner that cant see the problem "oh he wont hurt you", yea right, so why has he got his jaws round my throat, maybe he's just giving me a luv bite eh, lovely.

I hope this gets sorted - i know people who have been in this situation and its not pleasant. And i agree with Pedantic - it's not the dogs' fault. i know a girl who's dog was shot when it was on someone's land - they had permission to use the land and the dog wasn't doing any harm. poor puppy

they need to get this sorted or people will take it into their own hands.
