Do any of you feed it?

Is it ok if you make it up the night before?

It says to soak for 30-60 seconds, but I make my breakfasts up the night before and some one else puts them in for me in the morning. Is this ok to do with this feed?

Thanks

I have fed it to couple of mine, and have soaked it 12hrs before, same with Quickbeet, dont think it matters really, Only dif is it tends to soak up more water as it is soaking longer.

I soak mine in advance too - I make up both am and pm feeds at the same time and it lasts fine. I would rather do that than give the hassle of asking someone else to do it, especailly if they are in a rush in the morning....

I have used the Fast Fibre and have been left unimpressed with the product. You have to use double the amount of water per scoop of fibre you use. The first initial scoop of water, the fibre ends up fizzing up and then soaks in. The second scoop obviously soaks the rest of the fibre.

First time I tried it, it went a little too dry. Second time I tried it, went a little too gloopy. In the end I have found that the fibre ends up taking in all the water and dries out quickly. That's within the 10 minutes of soaking it and the horses eating it.

I have found myself, that it doesn't have the ability to stay nicely soaked, like kwikbeet does when you get it ready for the feed on the night before. I just ended up getting fed up of it. The only thing said for it, was that the fella loved it more when it was that gloopy he was happy as a lil piggy in mud.

You might have a better stab at getting it to remain soaked over night that I did.

Hmm, I fed mine the samples packs last night and didnt find this. I really liked it and my horses LOVED it :0) I thought they would just turn their noses up at it!!!

! Never had a problem with it , been feeding it for over a year now; I always make up teatime feed in the morning and morning feed at teatime always been fine. I add supplements and a handful of chaff. One bag lasts my two about 2 months! so very cheap; I LOVE IT!

I feed it to my TB, I mix it with hifi lite and hi fi cubes. I make up his feeds in advance for the following day as first down, feeds, and I like to know hes had the right feed! I mix his supplements in whilst the FF is still soaking and find this way they disappear completely. He loves it and now going in to our third winter with this as his staple diet, so far, so good.

I just found I couldn't get a grip in terms of the consistency of the product. As I said, one day it was gloopy and next it was too dry. As with all things. it's a personal preference.

Morrigan,

Funny enough you mentioning that you thought the horses would turn their nose up at it. All of the horses with the exception of the fella turned their noses up at it. First time trying it was just a waste.

I feed it too - and soak overnight, before mixing with chaff.

If it really thickens overnight, maybe add a bit more water just before you use it, but if it's mixed in with something else then the thickness probably doesn't matter so much?

been feeding it for 2 years but my lad went off it this year, he is now having the ap veteran vitality. i soak both for both feed and never had a problem. when i feed fast fibre i used to make it up at the bottom of the bucket then but the chaff etc on top then mixed together in the morning.

I usually soak overnight and haven't had a problem with it in that respect. I mix it with Speedibeet for my old mare and she eats it all, but the new horse was having it on its own for a while and he could be a bit fussy about it and would leave some, although he definitely seem to prefer it quite runny!

I think it's great, the horses are happy to eat it sloppy or drier, and will eat it on it's own. A&P have also brought out another quick soak product, Veteran Vitality, it's a three minute soak, Google it, they are doing a trial with it at the moment, you keep a feed diary and they give you free feed vouchers.

We feed it daily. It soaks up 3 x its volume in water, so despite it saying add twice the water, I'd rather I added the extra water rather than it soak up the water from inside the horse's stomach. I make up a big batch (we have 9 to feed) and it keeps being used until all gone - sometimes 2 days, and its stays fine. Sometimes we mix it with alfalfa nuts and grass nuts into a porridge. Lovely stuff, great for getting condition on, and getting horses to eat enough fibre if they are picky.

I used to give it to my old lad as he couldnt have sugar beet or other sugary/starchy feeds, he loved it, so I'm going to be trying my 2 girls on it this year. They are both good doers so wont be having much, but they are looking decidedly bored with their hifi lite and supplements, especially my little broodie, who can be quite fussy.

I feed this and love it! Horse and 2 ponies wolf it down. :)

I usually add a bit of extra water and just mix with chaff (or I do, FF with Speedibeet and chaff if need more calories). Soaking feed is a bit fiddly but I like feeding something moist, it's great to hide supplements in, the horses like it, it seems to suit them well AND you can make it warm when it's really cold. :) I also think that it's very good value.

Well Fast Fibre went down a hit tonight! She gave it a stiff and then dug in!
Thank you again for such wonderful advice, we've got a long road ahead but I think we can make it.

The face when it had all gone!

The only times that I don't make it up in advance are when it's very hot or very cold. When it's very cold, I make it up with warm water as a bit of a treat. When it's very hot, I worry about it starting to ferment, if it's in a lidded bucket all day.

The only trouble with leaving it to soak between feeds is that the cheeky robins start to eat it and poo all over the top of it. Hence why I put a lid on it!

I changed my TB's diet late last summer as we had a few issues too long winded to go into now! He now has 2 feeds of fast fibre and equi beet with a cup of micronised linseed and he has never been better. I like the fact that it has to be soaked in alot of water and normally have a feed ready in advance soaking for 12 hours to allow as much water soak up as possible. Everything about him is better, coat, hoof condition, weight and mind...
Even with this terrible winter which seems to still be hanging around I have had comments about how well he is looking which makes me a very proud mummy! He is out 24/7 and has actually come out of the winter better than he went in :)

I've been feeding this since it was recommended by the A&P feed adviser last autumn. I feed with unmolassed Hi Fi & apples/carrots. My chap seems to like it and I leave a scoop ready in his bucket with the chaff handy for the lovely lady who feeds him for me at weekends. She just adds the water. :)
