My five year old ish is a really good doer and 90% of the time a dopey donkey, i've always been one for feeding bog standard H&P cubes or mix and HIFi but i am finding even on a small amount of h&P cubes over a few days he gets more and more spookey and bucky, he doesn't go any more forward just gets silly and can't settle or concentrate, and my god can he buck when he tries. I have been looking in to the above as the have a trial on at the mo' and wondered what anyone thought, or if anyone has any other suggestions for a good low starch, no barley, slow release energy feed.

Do you mean Fast Fibre?

I love the stuff and as it is fibre you can feed as little or as much as you need. It has a low energy content so if you do need to feed for energy then you could try any of the following low starch/sugar feeds:

Speedibeet
Grass chop/nuts
Alfa A oil
Spillers Slow Release Cubes
Topspec Cool Condition Cubes
Spillers Conditioning Fibre

none of the above contain cereals so the starch level is minimal thus avoiding any unwanted exciteable behaviour whilst providing good calorie content.

Hope this helps.

Fast Fibre is great, i knew someone with a very underweight youngster who fed him up on just fast fibre and ad lib haylage. He looks a hundred times better now!
I really rate it, fab stuff :)

I like fast fibre too and feed it with alfalfa pellets, which are just pure alfalfa with no additives. My horses look great on it and they stay sane!
