Allen and Page

Check the starch levels of any product you are interested in. Allen and page feeds have great names made very desirable to owners but some of the starch levels are :eek:

Calm and condition used to be 19% starch!!! You can get much lower starch values than even the 12% that its supposed to be now.

They are good quality feeds though, just check the nutrient specification for you individual needs. But that goes for every brand.
 
Our TB mare dropped a bit too much weight going in to winter this year so we gave her that and she looked fabulous all through winter, also she was not silly or fizzy at all, so for her it really worked.
 
Firewell I was at a yard local to me/us last week and they feed all Allen and Page and had a lady there giving a talk. Its a competition yard with some great looking horses (condition wise) on it. Let me know if you want to chat with girl on the yard there (you might already know her!!) it might well be enlightening and help you decide xx
 
I fed my pony on R&R and he had a super shinny coat and was calm but it made him fat, so I changed him to slim and healthy which has helped him be slimmer but he is quite sharp on it.

Lots of their feeds have to be mixed with an equal measure of chaff as well and soaked.
 
I have been feeding C&C to our 16.2 WB;15 hh Arab and 14.1 section D for the past two years together with fast fibre.My Arab is 26 years young and can be difficult to maintain weight.However,C&C and FF are brilliant,lasts ages and keeps them all sane.I am just feeding FF at present as they are all doing so well they do not need extra condition,but will revert back in the winter.As you can see these feeds are suitable for all types and i highly recommend them.I aim to increase FF once all the grass has been eaten,and tend to give the section D more FF than anything.

See if you can get one of the A&P reps out to do a weight & feed assesment. I had one the other week. The rep left me with 6 little sample bags of fast fibre and then I got couriered a whole (full size) bag as a free sample the next week!
I currently feed a mix of ride & relax and Hi-Fi but once the Hi-Fi runs out I'll be switching to fast fibre.
My mare seems to do well on it but it's early days yet, I've probably used about 1/2 bag of ride & relax so far.
Previous to feeding the R&R she had gone through a phase of not having any energy and has picked up recently. I can't say for certain whether that is due to switching feed.
They said if the R&R didn't give enough energy then try the hacking mix as that's the next one up.

Out of interest, do they charge to send a rep out?
 
For some strange reason my horse would not eat R & R, AandP were a bit mystified, but I went back to FF plus C&C, on C&C I could really manage the weight to a fine level, so balanced with FF if getting a bit too much condition.
I didn't keep it overnight, but when I leave a feed, I might add the water and pellets in the bottom, and add a layer of chaff (un-molassed) if I need to add a bit of "chewiness"
 
I use C&C (well not at the moment) but through winter and back end of summer to keep his weight along with sugarbeet, I find he's quite level headed with it (yes he has a calmer but that's just to help with his hormones etc) he's quite a opinionated horse so if any feed was going to blow him up then I'm sure it would with him, I like Allen & Page feeds.

The A&P nutitionist said to feed him 1kg of R&R and 1kg of FF. That is only 1/2 a Stubbs scoop of R&R and 1/3 a scoop of FF (dry weight) twice a day! That includes all his vits and mins.
That makes me happy because I do not like feeding big feeds :).

Hopefully he won't need the CC, I've never used a conditioning feed before. He usually has chaff or Alfa a with fibre nuts and balancer and he has has unmollassed beet in the past too. None of that fizzed him up and the nuts were 13.5% starch. He only got fizzy when he was fed lots of Alfa a oil but that also gave him a runny bum so not surprising I guess!
I will just have to wait and see if the R&R fizzes him.. Hopefully not! At the end of the day he's a working TB so while a good doer he needs *something*.
Hes eating it up well, fingers crossed!
 
Oh the nutritionist said that the FF takes the place of chaff, fibre nuts and unmollassed sugar beet all in one feed! It does sound very impressive :). It's designed to be fed as a fibre ration so no chaff needs to be added :).
