Some info please, why and when do you feed it? I know what it says on the tin but am just wondering about people's experiences with it.

For example, TBx, at grass in rich pasture, not ridden, no excercise, only taken in once every day for grooming, not stabled but fed good hay whilst in. Good idea to feed or not? Pasture is only around 4 years old, ploughed and re-sown from scratch. Horse has around 4 and half acres on its own. Horse on the fat side.

This is not my horse. Horse is having behavioural difficulties, is as high as a kite to the point of being dangerous. There are some other issues here but I do think the amount of rich grass and feed does not help.

Thanks all. :)

I bought a sack of it, mixed it with speedibeet and mollichop calmer, so it lasted 5 months. Won't bother this year as I don't think it added anything really, just add oil to the speedibeet and mollichaff with balancer instead.

Need to up the hay really for winter and so, am giving fast fibre by A & P a try as well as hay and I just add some of that occasionally too, rather than the R & R.

I'm trying it this winter for the first time. I don't have a fizzy pony but needed a feed with a bit more to it but with high fibre still and no molasses. My horse has no problem with eating it but then he'd eat anything...even cheap rabbit food I reckon! As he only gets a tiny feed I also don't expect to see massive results overnight but hoping it gives him some extra slow release energy for riding as he can be lazy.

Ride and Relax is 15% starch, which is not terribly high compared to some feeds, but still higher than he needs if he is not working and is in good condition. I presume from your post that he is being fed this at the moment? If so, it would be worth cutting it out to see if his behaviour changes. If the owner still wants to continue feeding him, then she could try giving him some Dodson & Horrell Equibites to supply vit/mins, or a vit/min supplement in a small handfull of HiFi Lite or Fast Fibre. Alternatively, if she is the sort who likes to give a bowlful of something, then she could swap the R&R for Fast Fibre as this is very low starch/low sugar.

Horse is overweight on 4.5 acres and not exercised and he is fed????!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid so. She was advised to try a handful of hi-fi lite if she wanted to give her a token gesture when she comes in but has ignored advice. As I said, there could be other issues here in relation to handling also. I wanted info on the R&R because I have never fed it and was wondering if it could be adding to problems.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Wouldn't bother feeding him, unless you want to give vits and mins in a handful of chaff!
I had my (very calm!) mare on ride and relax as she just needed a few more calories than fast fibre. Although it has no added sugar, it sent her loopy! The corn in it made her loose her marbles! She is back on fast fibre now (which is brilliant!) and I just put some kwiki beet in if she needs more cals.

I feed my very sensative mare on r&r and it works a treat for her. After trying many non heating and quiet mixes this is the one that she is the calmest on, and she loves it!

i feed it to my pony and it made him fat so i swapped him to slim and healthy and this has been much much better for him.

he loves both feeds and he is a fussy eater.

:D Has had no effect on any of mine when I have tried, not a fan! She should maybe give handful of safe n sound but doesnt really sound like she needs to give anything!!!
