Has anyone used this and did they find it effective?

Having just completed our first ODE I think that Casper still needs a little pick me up to give him more energy to do well at all phases although interestingly he didn't feel any more tired after yesterdays ODE than he does after just going XC.

He's currently fed Power & Performance with Dengie's Natural Vitality performance supplement.

We tried to give him a syringe of Energy B Booster yesterday but he refused to take it and we had a tantrum/rearing fit as he though we were trying to poison him.

Some people have suggested red cell or similar but I'm scared it will turn him loopy.

I really like the A&P products so was considering the Sustain to add to his usual feed in the days prior to a competition so any review would be welcome. Alternatively, tiger oats are also something I'm considering.

I have fed red cell to my very laid back horse and after 6 weeks it kicked in and it was like rocket fuel. It was great for us, he wasnt spooky or stupid just really motivated and willing to work. We had a break from that for about a year and now on NAF energy but I am yet to see a difference. Have tried oats before but would have had to feed by the bucket load and wasnt ideal with a good doer!

Nupafeed "staying power" is great and gives them extra stamina! It worked wonders with my mare!

Very expensive though!

Does anyone feed oil for energy?

There are so many options available - oats, turbo, instant response, red cell and every one receives mixed responses as obviously every horse is different and I'm loathe to spend a fortune and it seems that perhaps starting off with something simple like sunflower oil might be an option? Then if that doesn't work try oats etc, etc.

I'm no expert but I have tried Tiger Oats on one of mine and I had to feed a huge amount to notice any difference in energy levels. I'm sure it's a myth that feeding oats will increase energy - well, unless you feed about 6 scoops a day!

I haven't tried Red Cell but I tried Equine America ProPell Plus which is very similar and it made my girl very spooky and silly.

I think it really is a case of trial & error to see what works for your horse. I currently hunt mine on her normal feed plus increased amounts of Baileys Outshine which is an oil supplement but apart from making her really shiny I'm not sure it's giving her any extra stamina. However she is a good doer so I don't give her huge amounts - 1kg a day during hunting season.

Good luck x

Nupafeed "staying power" works out at Around £30 a month so is on the expensive side but it really does work and saves having to feed great quantities of feed! You can also just feed it for a few days before an event too so that is a more cost effective way of using it! My mare is a good doer so it suited her really well especially in summer when I didn't want to give her large feeds.
