Why do you suspect diet? Have you made any recent changes?

Looks possibly like something caused by contact. New bedding? New plant growing in field? Is it itching?
 
You have two threads on the same problem, perhaps best if it all stays on this one with more information on it.

in the past we have had this reaction from a change of field hence diet , no changes its the same field for past 8 years for this horse , not itching, we injected a steroid and its calmed down immediately just need to find the cause ..
