My boy has come up in hives/bumps on his face and head. I thought it was the Lamipro I started feeding as a precaution but stopped feeding it and they went down. Today they are back again. He is a sensitive chestnut and is allergic to alfalfa but hes not had any, Hes only feed hay and a bit of fast fibre. On restricted grass at mo. its only on his head area and his mate has not got it. Any ideas what it could be? Vet is out friday anyway so will get it checked. It looks more like a rash than fly bites.

Buttercups?

Theyre sprouting like mad now and if you have lots in the field their muzzle brushes by them, and can react. Or they can accidently eat some leaves while grazing around buttercup bunches to get the grass.
Mine once ate buttercups in haylage (still poisonous when damp, but not when dried in hay) and hives started from head and neck.

Ive noticed mine eat buttercup leaves before flower stalk sprout - but then leave the leaves alone once flowers are out. Im not sure why, maybe the plant gets more bitter as it matures into summer, and maybe the toxins increase.

clay and charcoal sloppy beet pulp feed is good for pulling toxins and toxin by-products from the gut, after suspected dodgy weed ingestion.
