My horse recently broke out in lumps all over his neck and throat (def not strangles, blood tests show no infection etc.) My vet thinks it's an allergy and has prescibed piriton which is keeping things on an even keel rather than getting rid of the lumpy bits. The lumps get worse when it's humid (more flies and midges?) and shrink at other times. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about any holistic/ herbal remedies which might assist?
p.s. have tried fly sheets but this particular gent shreds his rugs in seconds!
Thanks x

Put him onto NAF D-tox - it will adjust his immune system and the lumps will probably disappear. It is better to start him on it before the itchy season starts but will more than likely help now. Once they have adjusted after a season of no itching on it, they will have no need for it the following year.

I swear by global herbs - the Skratch plus is amazing - my pony has auto immune disease alongside sweet itch. This time last year she had open bleedi g sores (and she was fully rugged) this year you would not know she had sweet itch. I can't believe it. It's a nightmare to feed as it stinks (she eats it in a marmite sandwich) an she smells like cat pee but theflies leave heralone too!!!!

That said I'm not sure if he is itchy?

Hives don't have to be caused by something outside - they can be caused by inhaling pollen ora food etc. I worked on the basis or process or elimination - I really don't rate serum allergy testing - it told is silver was allergic to half the panel but the actual problems did not relate to alot of the symptoms and was of no use. She came back not allergic to midges, but symptomatically she is.

Rugs - iwohld look at the Rambo hoody as it's one of the toughest going - basic fly rugs are usuallynot enough to stop small flies. I use the weatherbeeta summer sheet combo as itis ripstop (White with green check) but a better fit on my pony and a lotcheaper though not as tough as rambo. He may have stuck his bead near an ant nest and as such it could be a one off - it's hard to tell.

Global her s restore is like a detox and that is fantastic as a "pick me up" too

Thanks very much for that. I think I'm going to start with the two suggested and see where we go from there! He doesn't seem to be that itchy, although, that being said he has cut himself under his chin where one of the lumps is so could have been "hoofing" it if you know what I mean.

As for Rambo rugs, he has a Rambo heavy turnout rug with neck cover and he managed to shred that within days this winter.....!!

Immune system boosters would make sense. Will give it a go.

xx

The rambo hoodys are like canvas tents, really funny stuff that seems to "starch up" with use.

Global herbs do some really good stuff - they do an immune rebalancer too :)
