Allergy - Guess why?

My welsh mountain is feed on just grass at the moment, with little hay and is in a paddock he has been in for 10 years and unfortunately in the last week hives have come up on his shoulders and lower neck. They are worst during the day, less in the morning. Not itching or destressed in anyway. Any suggestions to what may have caused it and what I can do to help?

It could be fly bites, a new plant growing in the field, or just that he has developed a reaction to a plant that he has eaten for years.

i think the same, just wondering how to help him as the hot days make it worse so I don't want to increase the heat with a fly rug. I'm using a homemade citronella fly spray but it's just not keeping the horseflies away, anything you can suggest?

Any chance it's the homemade fly spray causing the reaction? Citronella is funny old stuff plus you will have used an emulsifier and detergents can cause issues too.
