Anybody else's horse ever had an allergy to it. My boy had a severe reaction. He had been on it fine for almost a year, then gave him an extra packet (consulted with vet on matter) for travelling to new yard and he's while head swelled up. He now been off it for a week, head swelling has gone down but has swelling on belly and sheath. Just wondered if anybody else had experienced this. Waiting to find out if the vet can find an alternative that he won't react to as he needs it for his arthritis. He we can't find anything for him to replace the danilon he has a pretty bleak outlook :,(

My sister's old pony was on Rimadyl for several years for his arthritis. We had regular blood tests to check his liver and they always came back fine. It hasn't been available for several years (only in injectable form) but I believe that the granules are now back on the market for horses again. Worth asking your vet about.

My pony is allergic to danilon, bute, arquel and metacam! She gets severe urticaria and her head/muzzle and mouth swells. I spend my whole time praying for no injuries!

Sorry I also meant to say my pony has arthritis too, we have to manage best we can without painkillers. I just let her tell me what she is up to doing and warm up slowly. It is possible to manage without painkillers but I maybe my pony isn't as bad as yours.

Depending on severity could you just stick with the lower dose he was previously ok on? Or, combine a low dose with devils claw or similar?

Mine did this last week, her whole head swelled up. The vet thought it was something else though, and advised me to keep giving danilon. Touch wood she has been fine since, still taking it with no side effects.

It was awful. She's had reactions before, but I coouldn't get her headcollar on she was so swollen.
