Allergy to hay (me not horse)

First day of stuffing hay nets in just a t shirt this year and this is what my arms looked like after.
I had already taken an allevia tablet as my hay fever is starting to kick in.
Anyone else allergic to hay and what do you take to help? I’ve been looking at the hay fever jab.

A decent hay steamer 🙂. It minimises the handling of dry hay, plus it’s very beneficial to the horse, so win win.

I use conventional small hay bales. I put tightly packed sections of dry hay straight into the steamer, and don’t put it into haynets until after steaming, when it’s much safer to handle. Plus I use a Stubbs ring hay net filler, which makes that job much easier.

I’ve got a Haygain, but unfortunately the company have gone bust.
 
I’m allergic - to meadow hay especially. I get a rash and I also developed asthma last year during hay fever season! Now I’ve got an inhaler to use in the summer months. I wear a mask and long sleeve top when filling nets.
 
I've had this for years and years, the sneezing and a running nose (the rash not so much). Wearing a face mask really helped.
The good thing is, I'm now completely over it. No medicine, just getting older.
I can handle hay all day without so much as a sneeze.
 
My daughter has had the hay fever jab, while it helped her allergies, it has wrecked her immune system. She has had constant colds and sinus infections for the past year.
 
My daughter has, takes Cetirizine anti-histamine.

Eta- has to be Cetirizine, Loratidine (sp) doesn't make any difference.

Oh dear, maybe I won’t be trying that then.

I would wear long sleeves but I get so hot doing all my nets. I make up loads in advance for the week ahead. Using something like a hay gain wouldn’t help as would still need to stuff nets.

Might have to go visit the GP and ask for stronger antihistamines.
 
My skin hates the world and everything in it, I broke apart my new haylage bale the other day in short sleeves and had a rash within the hour. Thankfully no sniffles etc.
 
My allergies to hay and straw are terrible. I takee prescribed Fexofenadine, and a nasal spray and eye drops. I find the nasal spray the most effective of the 3 and really suffer if I have forgotten to use it that day. I wear a long sleeved top when handling hay, and wear a hat/cap and sometimes mask/glasses if there is a really dusty bale or windy day.
Haylage I am generally ok with but not all my horses can tolerate it so we have to use a mixture of hay and haylage here. Will only have straw on the yard when our mare comes in for foaling as that is what I am most allergic to.
