Small Cob came in 2 days ago, and looked like he had been playing in water buckets. Nose and mouth soaking, 'water' everywhere. Wiped his face with towel to dry it, and then realised his nose was pouring with clear fluid.

Coming from both nostrils, looks like someone put a tap in his head! When he stands with his head over the stable door, he actually creates a little puddle on the floor!

Have spoken to Vet, said to give him Piriton (8 a day) for the next week, as it sounds like an allergy. If no improvement after that, he'll have to come out and do more investigation.

Nothing has really changed re his keep. Same field, stable, bedding etc. The gorse bushes are out in bloom, but he's lived here for 4 years and its the same every summer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Is everything else normal B? Eating, drinking, temp, pulse, breathing, pooing, peeing, energy levels? Could be a low grade virus or the start of an URTI? Could he have sustained an almighty clonk to his nose/sinuses? Are his eyes clear? Hopefully, he'll stop dripping soon!

My mare did this about 2 months ago, you could see drips of 'water' all over the floor when she had her head over the door. I had it investigated and she had fluid in her sinuses believed to be a result of infection, 3 weeks of antibiotics and it hasn't (touch wood!) come back yet.

Maybe worth a thought?

Other than leaking like a dodgy tap, he's pretty much ok. He was a bit grumpy a few days ago, but back to normal now.

Strangly enough, he has started to be a bit 'head shakey', so we've been using a nosenet on him, that seems to improve the situation.

The Vet is over next week to de-colt the yearling, so he's going to look at him then, and it will give the antihistamines a chance to get into his system.

I have previously had a pony with sinus probs, but his discharge was always stinky and green.
