Does anybody out there have severe allergies to horses / hay / dust / pollen etc and yet still cope with a horse? I am on daily antihistamines, nasal spray, eye drops, and two asthma inhalers, and still I am suffering terribly at the moment to the extent I am exhausted all the time with lack of sleep and sneezing fits etc.

Oh dear poor you. That's not good.

I have a mild allergy to hay (doctor said it was the mould spores in it), but nowhere near as bad as you. I should wear gloves when I touch it and make sure it doesn't get near my eyes otherwise they will swell up and I will sneeze all night. If I feed my horses some hay and then touch my eyes, I am in trouble.

I switched eventually to haylage and that sorted the problem, although I keep some hay for emergencies and I sometimes get lazy and open a bale without gloves on- I do then sneeze all night. I am not allergic to horses which must be much worse.

Do you change your clothes when you come in after being with horses? If I have got hay in my hair I will shower straight away, and I never take my jumper off over my head as that rubs my face in it and I get bits in my hair. Fleece with zip every time! Not sure what else to suggest really - lack of sleep is a killer.

Have you tried changing your pillow case every night? Horse hair and bits and pieces get everywhere and things like that helped me, but if you shower every time I guess that won't make any difference.
