I don't think anything is 'going on'

He ran out at the fence so you can hardly blame the fence itself, plenty jumped around clear and it was a 4* not 5*.
A freak, really awful, and tragic accident and nothing more.
although hysteria from certain areas will fuel groups like PETA to look more closely at competitive equestrian sport.

So awful but it just sounds like a really unlucky injury. There are more than likely more horses injured in the field and put to sleep, than there are eventing. We just don’t hear about it. Ive had one break a leg in the field and it was probably 2.5 hours before vet pts by the time someone spotted the horse, I got to yard, vet got to yard etc. theses horses are at least seen within minutes and care given immediately. Not that it makes it any ‘better’ or easier

I wasn't watching, thank goodness.

Far too many serious injuries happening to both horse and riders currently :(.

Did Allstar B run out at the final element because he was already injured, or did he sustain the injury as he ran out? He's not the type to duck out.

I didn't see any of it but also wondering if he was already injured or was hurting ?

It would have been an unlucky torsion injury. Just a force injury. The difficult thing to know is when the catastrophic breakdown began. Unless you can x ray legs before/during etc you will never know

Poor horse. Out of pain forever, now.
Deep condolences to his connections, who must be devastated.
