Anyone had any experiences good or bad? PM me if you would prefer? Looking for part livery with school and hacking in Fleet, Hartley Wintney, Eversley areas so any other recommendations would be welcomed. Thanks

Don't know of that that one, but I used to keep my horse in that area until we moved to Somerset in 2003. The info may have changed, but these were the yards I knew of:

Blackbushe Farm - On the road between Fleet and the A30, first left after the Motorway Bridge, don't really advertise, but you can see the stables from the road, and normally have vaccancies. Very rustic, but safe and tidy. Bloke that ran it was an ex jump jockey and really scary until you got to know him (might be dead by now though cos he was getting on a bit). The hacking was fantastic (you could get out onto the MOD land and use the drag hunt fences if you bought a permit), and the school was home-made but useable. Nice year round turnout too.

Cottage Farm (and the place right next door, can't remember the name) - Between Yateley and the A30 - Posher than the above, both had year round turnout, Schools and Show Jumps. Hacking was OK, but not as nice as the above. Hacking distance to 'Yateley Riding School' where they have the outdoor showjumping. Both could be a bit cliquey in those days, don't know what they are like now.

There was also a place (again can't remember the name) that is on the main road between Fleet and Farnham, not far out of Fleet. **** turnout, but it had an indoor school and you could ride on the MOD land, again with drag hunt fences (and get into Tweesledown....they might have fixed the fence by now though). Not sure if they do DIY there now, last I heard it was all going to Part\Full.

Loads of yards in that area though, the local tack shops are the best place to find ads.

Great - thanks for the info. I think i can locate some of those from your descriptions (good memory by the way!) and will do some digging. Agreed - have tried local tack shops but i also find personal recommendations the best - have heard some real horror stories which worry me sick as i can't always make it to the yard every day due to work and want to be able to trust the YO to look after him when i am not there.....

Ummmm Cottage Farm I would avoid like the plague!
Have had quite a few friends there that got out quick sharp. Seems you have to be off the yard by a certain time (no good if you want to ride in the evening!) and the woman is a bit "fierce"!
Blackbushe Farm has some excellent hacking, though I dont know the yard well enough to comment.
You also have some lovely little yards in Eversley, which is very close to Fleet.
There is a new yard on the Fleet bends (round the corner from Gibralter Barracks) which gives you hacking out onto some lovely MOD owned land. You will however need a permit.
Just down from Cottage Farm is another livery yard which seems to be the preferred yard for miles around but the name eludes me for the moment......something Oaks I believe.
You also have Hawley Equitation, and Shelly Spears, between Blackwater and Farnborough.
The facilities are better at Hawley, but people tend to get along better at Shelly Spears place. Again, both have excellent hacking onto MOD land.

I've never heard of Allswell either! I was at Albany Farm on Zebon Copse for many years and it was always pretty good. The horses were in at night, has a decent indoor school and great hacking to Tweseldown and towards Crondall. Not sure who is running it now though.

Small world!

Only know of good things about Allswell. The new lady that runs it, Helena offers lots of different types of livery as to what will suit you best. I also understand that she offers lessons.

Hacking wise, you can get onto the Military land surrounding Twesledown (and if you do that I recommend getting a permit, as if you are riding there, the likelihood is that you'll get caught by the warden sooner rather than later)...and then the land between Ewshot and Church Crookham and towards Crondall.I also understand there is a school, and lessons are available...

The best thing is to pop down and say hi. Allswells is on the Beacon Hill Road between Fleet and Farnham and used to be called Beacon Hill Farm, but I understand that standards have improved since it was taken over.... ;)

Nearby, you also have Hungerford Livery (in Winchfield) (google it) Winchfield Equestrian and Albany Farm in Zebon Copse, but I'm not sure how many vacancies there are at the moment as there's normally a waiting list (but folk are very friendly so feel free to pop down if you are looking for a DIY yard).

Good luck!

I've been at allswell for quite a while now and it is the most friendly yard I know. The latest yard manager, helena, is really good with the horses and every one is really happy down there. The grazing is good, its morning or evening turn out, and stabled at night. It's a really good yard, and I'd thoroughly recommend it!

I had a friend who had her horse at Allswell Livery for a while, she said that the stables and yard in general, were very run down and in need of attention. She also felt that the turnout was poor and not big enough for the amount of horses at the yard.

She did say however, that the other liveries were friendly, if albeit a very young crowd.

There are loads of great yards around the Hants/Surrey borders, it just depends on what you are looking for you and your horse.
