Just looking for some advice! My thoroughbred mare came to me on Alpha A Molasses Free and I was wondering why this specific feed? My horses in the past tend to have lived on grass and hay, so feed is new to me. Is this because of a dietary requirement?

could be because prone to laminitis OR that if has molasses it causes her to get wound-up/over-excitable, molasses can be a good energy source that some horses don't need!

So yes expect is a dietary requirement - grass/hay doesn't always give enough energy/nutritional requirements - maybe continue her on it and see how she goes. And/Or speak to a feed nutrition helpline for advice - Dengie who make Alfa-A have a feed helpline you could call.
