Wanted to increase my chance of more replies as not many people in breeding.

How often does your mare come into season on average?

Well i am eagerly awaiting my mare to have a season, not for breeding reasons sadly but due to her uterus infection we have still not resolved.
Vet has been out multiple times but not for a little while now as we are waiting for this elusive season to appear.
She was given on two separate occasions a hormone to induce the season, neither time worked! So i was hoping nature may take its course.

I thought mare's seasons were generally 6-8weeks, i am sure her seasons used to be more regular when she was in a mixed herd, but now not a sausage on that front.

How often does your mare have her season? I would really like to get on with finding out the cause of the infection as we are no closer then we were at the start

3 week cycle generally. My 3 mares (25, 17 and 7) all still come in very regularly. One is highly in season now (mild wet summers do it). Maybe you should get vet to check again!!

Mine used to be in every 3 weeks or so.
She also suffered a spate of uterine infections at the end of last year that kept clearing themselves with the season but she was still having seasons in December!! So we put her on regumate as she was a bit unpredictable and vacant when in season and we haven't looked back since. No more infections, no hideous seasons and much less temperamentalness!!!!

Thats interesting roody2, i will be calling the vet yet again tomorrow as i have been ringing them to say nothing as yet, she did used to get them about every 3-4 weeks but not for a while it seems, it is coming up 4weeks now, maybe because i am waiting and waiting it feels like forever!

Thanks for replies

I did reply in Breeding but will repeat here. Has your mare been scanned? If not, why does your vet think she has an infection? Is it usually easy to spot when your mare is in season (I've got some I'd NEVER know were in season unless I put them the other side of the trying bar from my stallion - even then I've had mares take 20 minutes or more of 'chatting up' before they admitted they were in season.)
