Are these nosebands the same thing just with different names ? have been told to try a mexican grackle on my TB as I am fed up of him grinning at me while I try and ride him forward, but when looking for a cheapish english leather one I keep finding American Cross which looks quite similar ?

Yep they are the same. They are just the higher fitting grackles with the rings at the side...

The ones in my tack store go by the name of 'Figure Eights' and they look exactly like a Grackle to me. No rings on the side though.

The american grackle/high ringed/mexican grackle look like this:

english grackles, or the traditional grackles are as you've stated above
