There's no point sugar coating it, with all the hard ground we have had (over 3 months now) the bonkers black pony has got FAT! So we are on a twice a day fitness program, hacking, schooling when the arena surface isn't too rubbish, lunging, long reining, but we still get a little bored, so have had to find some alternative forms of fun.

Loves his podium:

A bit of arena harrowing...although I think I mixed up which should go first, the horse or the OH:

He is also learning to bow:

and is getting the idea of spanish walk (no vid/pics as yet) and doing lots of liberty work (been reading Jean Francois Pignons book!
Any other ideas? Went on our first solo trip to the gallops the other day and he was fab so hopefully I can get him there more often to shift the flab (he isn't usually very confident going it alone, will go from happy to panic at the flip of a switch, and my companion horse is broken)

He is a proper sweetie, and so quick and keen to learn. I just have to be careful I don't over do it so he doesn't either get bored or start throwing tricks in all over the place. It's nice to just spend the time with him though.

Try the polework exercises on a great dvd that will work your horses core muscles (like Pilates does for us) and his back and tummy muscles and is good for joints. See exercise dvd on www.werc.co.uk.
It simple and really good for your horse.
P.S - its not me that's selling it but I have it myself.
Also do things like bending poles in hand, L and Z shaped poles on the ground. lots of transitions within these and before and after.

Great, thank you, I do need some more pole work ideas. I ought to get back into my trec practice too.
