Hi all,

I had an original ComFiTec probably a good 12 years ago now, but stupidly had it washed and reproofed and it then leaked like a sieve. Replaced it with the same (the model with the detachable cuff) a couple of years ago and it's no where near as good. The back seams ripped almost immediately and it leaks in heavy rain. It also weighs a ton and I worry for my poor pony lugging it about 24/7

So looking for,

Around 50/100 gram 'base' rug as I use liners
Detachable neck
Leg straps so I can use liners
Tummy cover if possible
Very high denier and waterproof as horses live out 24/7
Suitable for cobby types with fair shoulders but not enormous ones.
Decent tail flap

Not bothered about colour etc, what's out there people 😀

Shires highlander- reasonably waterproof, they have detachable neck styles and they're not super expensive, so you only have to have a little cry when your horse destroys one 😂
No belly cover, but I think they come with leg straps (or have the D-rings to add them?).
They fit okay on my Welsh/Welsh X, I do have to use satin bibs if they're clipped, but I do with weatherbeeta rugs as well.

I find Rambo and Rhino are the best, however for a cheaper option I've been really impressed with the Gallop Trojan 100g and it's generous around the shoulders with a decent tail flap. Not sure it has leg straps but it has clips at the back for the tail string which I clip my liners on to.

No tummy cover but the Gallop Trojan Xrta fitted my usually Weatherbeeta horse really well. I've had the 0, 50, 100 & 200 from that range

I've never used the Toofan range from Gallop but they are an even higher denier. If anyone happens to spot a 6ft3 in the 200g turnout rug please let me know. They're sold out everywhere that I can see 🙈

I love the gallop Trojan extras. I have. Mine lives out 24/7 and doesn’t let us down. It’s very roomy at the shoulder, so the no neck no fill gapes a bit, but she is a finer WB. The 200 with neck doesn’t have that issue because the neck brings it together

I’m converted to Swish 100g turnout with detachable neck for my heavy turnout and Masta no fill for light weight. I have 2 warmbloods in them, switched from WB as also noticed a lack of long term waterproof. Both rugs are well made with good gussets for shoulder movement see pics

I'm another who rates Gallop Trojan Xtra rugs I have a 50g coming up to 4 yrs old and still going strong on my Welsh D he is fairly tough on rugs as well.
Fits his shoulder nicely has a huge tail flap and leg straps, only missing a belly cover. As its 50g he wears it in heavy rain in the summer and pretty much does the whole winter in it as he runs quite hot so has had plenty of wear.

I'm a Rambo convert for my cob, but it has to be the ones with the V clip closure at the front. The neck cover does up without having to get the straps lengthened which is a welcome novelty! The surcingles did need shortening slightly but I love the safety aspect of them and being able to undo the velcro to take them off is useful. He has a big front yet this fits beautifully, no tummy cover but it's deep enough that it wraps round him well. In the last big storm not a drop of water got through anywhere and he was happily grazing rather than looking for shelter.

ANother thought is The Big Horse Shop, they're good on cobs and a lot cheaper than Rambo. Fitted mine far better than Swish which were too small on the neck and only just fitted his chest.

I just bought a 50g shires highlander plus detachable neck it's 1200 denier just under £100 I'm really pleased with it.

Mine have the weatherbeeta dynamic rugs as well and both fit them fine abd take all my liners.
