I decided that Armas could do with a Osteopath treatment thus I booked a session. I was warned that the osteopath was rather alternative mmmm.
So she arrived I explained my issues rear hind not tracking in fully.
She had a look at his movement then started to work. She ran her hands over the whole of Armas. She indicated that there was an issue with his Sacrum and his first three vertebra were tight she also indicated that everything was ok in side !.
So the treatment consisted of her closing her eyes tightly touching the affected areas. Treatment lasted about 30mins and cost me €170.
I was told that he would now be fine and to keep him of work for a day.
Osteopath is also a vet !!!
To say I am not filled with hope is an understatement. We shall see.
However I have also booked a session http://www.cadrenoir.co.uk/veterinary-clinic-and-smithy I shudder to think of the cost
Lets hope the odd osteopath is correct. If not I shall be asking for a refund !

I am going to the vets to put my mind at rest.

Has any one had an experience with such an odd osteopath ???

That is not osteopathy as far as I know.

I would be very wary of anyone who says it is.

My Chiropractor which is very much like Osteopathy only charges £70 and he is a vet too. Always does a really good job. I can not see how anyone can say, by just touching the horse, ha everything is alright inside.

I would say very alternative??????

Sounds more like a cranial osteopath to me rather than a conventional treatment. I guess you have to wait to see the results as to the success (or not) of the treatment. €170 :eek:

Why are you going to Cadre Noir? Do they have a physio there?

In your shoes; in view of the lack of qualified persons in your region and the cost, I would either do an equine massage course or buy a book and learn to massage Armas yourself once his issues (if he actually has any that can be diagnosed and treated such as sacral iliac misalignment which is what I think your osteo was saying) have been sorted.

I believe there are people in your own business who would be able to give you theoretical/practical support to do this and it would maintain him as well as allowing you to really know his musculature and be able to discern small changes and treat accordingly (and be a lot cheaper!)

I think I shall be taking a equine massage course rather useful ! I am going to the Cade Noire as its not far away and is the best vets in the local area.

The school has its own ultra modern veterinary clinic, equipped with an an x-ray and ultrasound scanning room etc. So if there is any issue they should be able to tell me. Fingers crossed there is not.

The clinic is also at the service of the Centre of Excellence Pôle France, for the veterinary care of the French team horses.

Its a very good idea to go to the Cadre Noir, in any case, to get to know them and for them to know you.
All the best.

So it seems that Armas had craniosacral treatment. I do wish my French was better. I have been reading rather a lot about this treatment. All seems rather odd but we shall see how the boy is tomorrow.
Has any one had experience with craniosacral treatment ? This is similar to the treatment Armas received apart from he was not laying down.

This is what one of the local YO said about the treatment and practitioner.

The first time I was very sceptical like you but I found some very good changes in my horse in particular and for other horses I know. It took me a few days before noticing some changes. I also called another osteopath but I did not notice any changes (it was cheaper but I prefer to pay more and to have som results). She works with some famous horses and riders in Saumur and with people I consider very watchful with their horses. I hope you'll found some good improvements.

Fingers crossed it works.

David and are are both sceptics as the treatment Armas received was bizarre. David said that if a woman had tried this is Spain at his yard they would have chased her away with a stick. HOWEVER we do not know why but Armas was very different today taking up contact better connexion working overall much better. Who knows what has happened. David thinks that this is the first time in the month that Armas has started to engage and work properly. When I have edited the video you will note some changes. Sitting trot much more amplitude and energy. Bizarre.
