Pretty much as title - she currently has a Bossy Bib (although I only put it on yesterday after realising just how bald her shoulders are) but every year she wears it, while it seems to stop the shoulders going bald and allowing the hair to grow back I find it rubs her withers very badly and pulls down on them as it has no elasticity.

Any ideas. Do the cheaper lycra ones work just as well??

Do you have the right size? Or is it getting on a bit...I noticed mine started rubbing withers this year where the seam has become worn...when replaced with a newer one no more problems :)

Hiya, I have got a lycra/cotton'ey one for sale, as I have sold my horse, this always worked for him, it has a loop under the girth and a bit that goes between his legs. Its cob/full size, excellent condition, PM if interested

You can try the roma sholder guard. I have used both and to be honest I find the Bossy Bibs far and away the best - but if you can get a good fit on a lycra one then by all means try it. Keep an eye on the elasticated strap around the girth area. I found that slipped back and rubbed.

It could be that your mare needs a different size having changed shape over the winter? If you ring the bib people they'll send you a factory second to try and you can swap it as many times as you need to get the correct fit. They can also hand make one to your specifications - but that is more expensive!

It could be sizing but any smaller and I think it would be too small, any bigger and it would slip behind the wither - its more that it pulls down on the wither and the pressure point is very narrow so she develops a pressure sore about 1cm long, right on top of her wither (oddly though none of her rugs do this?!?).

I also find it rubs a wee bit about half way along and just infront of the scapula - where the edge meets the coat??

Hence I never use it until her shoulders (front of) are bald as I don't like using it too long term, she actually has a white stripe on her withers from where its rubbed in previous years. Hence wondering if something with more give/elasticity over the wither would help??

But, her shoulders where the rugs have rubbed are now bald and sore with it so its gone back on at the expense of the withers :( I can't win!!

I may canibalise it and insert an elastic pannel to sit over the wither but I am neurotic about seams and slighly loather to do it as if it doesn't work I will have removed too much material to reverse.

Trendybraincell - its about 3 years old now, and showing signs of age, but all seams etc are fine and its always rubbed the wither right from new.

Shay - I'll try and ring them this week and ask about factory seconds to try but I doubt its a size issue tbh. If going down the m2m route I may aswell do it myself as I have no issues working a sewing machine.

Could you try putting some sheepskin in it? I've found bossy the best to use personally... I've used snuggy hoods, Roma and a cheap Lycra one and they all rubbed.
