hi everyone (:

My horse suffers from extremely sensitive skin and therefore i am unable to use clipper oil,

can anyone suggest any natural alternatives ?

thanks x

one horse i look after is allegic to any thing petrolium based. One more than once has ended up on antib's and having steroid injections because of his reactions. Its amazing just how many products contain this. The big problem is clipper oil as all seem to contain petrolium. We had planned to clip using sugical spirit and do a trace clip in stages so clipper's don't get too hot. If your horse is just sensitive try the oil in a white bottle with green writing and smells of lavender (something like natural horse) very good only had the said above horse react to it

when i clip i use 2 sets of blades and wd40 or baby oil for the sensitive ones, when one set gets hot i put it in a pot with surgical spirit and use the 2nd set, being alcohol based it evaporates and cools the blades much faster, and speeds up the clipping time.

WD40 will bugger your clippers friend blew up one pair and i have blown one set up too. the oil is the wrong consistance and ends up suforcating the engineand then they over heat and go bang!

My Vet swears by alcohol spray, the stuff he uses everyday.

I use it now too for my trimmers, hasn't caused any problems.
