Hi, My horse is on Cortaflex and has been for at least 2 years now, although because of a current financial situation I'm having to think about a few cut backs. Does anyone know of a cheaper but also effective alternative to Cortaflex?

Thank you!!

vets vits do a supplement called equiflex. my friend swears buy it. i recommended it as i use their hoof supplement equihoof which has sorted out all my boys hoof problems ... and believe me, the list was ever growing. if the equiflex is as good i would highly recommend it. my friend seems to think it is! and at around £17 a tub you cant go wrong!!

The local vets to make one called Newmarket Equine Suppliment (call taylor and lees Catley Cross Halstead) its fantastic and actually better than cortaflex they will also post to you

my horse was on cortaflex HA for years (6 or more). he's now on the equine america £15.99 glucosamine stuff and i have not noticed any difference what so ever. In fact he hunted better than ever this year and this was our 10th season

cortaflex is mostly glucosamine and MSM. You can buy MSM in bulk off eBay (it is the same stuff, I have tried it) and human glucosamine from someone like Simplysupplements.com, whoever is cheapest. Horse dose is about 6,000 (6 high strength tablets) of glucosamine, and as far as I remember, though you need to look it up 15gramms, of MSM. I'd also recommend the Equine America stuff but buying separately is even cheaper if you spot the special offers.

Apologies if it has changed since, when I used it five years ago it was glucosamine, HLA and MSM.

Still, if the OP can't afford it, I have had just as good results from both the EA product and from generics bought of eBay or human supplement sites.
