Alternative uses for a stable mirror? Got to laugh...

I think this is a case of I've got to laugh otherwise I might cry!!

I decided to try a stable mirror in the hope that it might help my horse get less stressed when his pals go out without him.... so I borrowed one from a friend who wasnt using hers, to try it out before forking out for one myself.... good plan... or so I thought!!!

We put it up in the stable on the opposite side to his haynet etc and my horse seemed very happy with his new "friend"... horah, I thought.... but then.... came back the next morning and he had obviously been snogging his mirror all night, but as a result, it is scratched ALL OVER where he has run his teeth over it - it looks like a child has been let loose with a felt pen and scribbled all over it and the marks will not come off!!! AHHHH!!!

So after much swearing at my very smug looking horse, I thought, ah well, not to worry, it will still do the job and he clearly likes it, so I'll apologise a lot and buy it off my friend or get her a replacement, no problem.....

BUT... the following morning, he seemed to have decided he doesnt like his new friend any more and keeps lunging round and pulling grumpy faces at it, so I'm going to have to take it down!!!

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

So theres a free (extremely annoying!!) horse as a prize for whovever comes up with the best alternative use for a really scratched stable mirror!!!

Only joking.... I love him to bits really (lucky for him!!)... he wont be getting any pocket money for the rest of the year though!!
 
Aww Bless Him Thats So Funny..! I was considering getting one for the same reason as you .. I think i might just have a re think about it now though!
So funny your horse has reali character..!!!!!
 
Your not giving him long enough to go through the motions with his new imaginary friend. It takes a good few days in the same way as if you put a new horse in the field with him, they establish Alpha horse and pecking order!! It took my gelding about 2wks before he was totally happy with his mirror, now he loves it and totally content to be in on his own, whereas before he used to box walk all the time.
 
That's a great story and has enlightened me no end - I had NO idea about stable mirrors and this could solve a big problem for me when I get my boy in after the summer (about next Weds I reckon!!). He won't settle without another horse in sight - so a mirror - even a scratched one might be a fantastic solution. Might need to put it behind bars though just incase he decideds to do the same as your lad!

Hmm..... I might give it another go.... he is very protective over his food with other real horses though (even his best pals), so I'm not sure it will work for him..... (hence why I thought it was a good idea to borrow one to try before forking out!!)... but since I've paid for it now, I might as well give it another try!!!!
 
Stick it back up but make sure you have camcorder to hand so that you can film him! Send it to 'animals to the funniest things' & hay presto you have £250 I would hope that would cover the cost of the mirror!!

Do I win him then!?!!
