I've been struggling to get my favourite brand of shavings for months but I'm now struggling to get ANY shavings regardless of brand. I've tried to order a pallet to stock up for winter but due to supply issues no one wants to take an order from me. :(

What brand of shavings (I prefer small flake) do you recommend? Not Hunters as they are virtually impossible to get hold of.
What other bedding alternatives that are easy to source do you recommend?
Is it worth trying a shavings/chopped straw mix?
How does chopped straw compare to straw?

My horse will be in at night from the end of the month. He's clean and I usually add a bale of shavings very 10 days. I want to avoid straw if I can.

Apologies for all the questions but just getting hold of bedding has become a PIA.

My work has been having problems getting shavings also. She has managed but can’t get the brand she wanted and it’s often a few pallets of one and a few of another.
The one we had recently that was lovely was called Nordic, wrapped in white wrapping.
It’s small flake bug not impossible to break up like some we have had and the main thing I notice Is dust, some are so dusty but these ones are fine.

I use Stable Choice shavings from Metsa Wood. We are lucky as they are big bales 22KG and we buy them in, they are currently £8.66 each which includes VAT and delivery as we are within a 20 mile radius of the supplier.

If I couldn't afford them anymore I would consider straw but it would be a total last resort, I love shavings and have had my horses on them since 1995, initially for 21 years free that my Dad used to bag up from the timber yard but then since 2016 from the supplier.

I use the plain unbranded shavings (although I think the tack shop said they were shires) and I use straw pellets with them as I find that they last a lot longer. The straw pellets are Sun-e-bed and I really recommend them. They smell fresh, are super absorbent and are dust free. I just mix them dry with the shavings and they break down as they get wet in the bed.
