Alternatives to tinned Chappie.....

My terrier suffers mild pancreatitis and the vet advised a low fat/high protein diet and recommended tinned Chappie, which has really helped.

However I nearly fell over when I went to my local supplier to find that 12 tins had gone up from last weeks price of £11.20 , to £21.00!!!!!

I will shop around and see if I can find it anywhere cheaper, but if not, can anyone think of an alternative?

Amazon have Chappie in 36 tin packs. Works out at £19.63 per 12 including delivery. Not much better I admit, it has gone up hugely. Be careful that you look at Chappie Original when shopping around. The awful, gloopy, fatty chicken version is cheaper!

Hyperdrug have it at £17.79 for 12 but their postage to where I live is ridiculous. May be ok to where you are?

6 x 412g tins for £7.50 from Wilkos.

I know, I was initially relieved when my vet recommended Chappie as we always called it 'Cheapie' as kids........possibly the fact it has 'vet recommended' on the tins now has inflated the price?!
 
I use Butchers, as its mostly meat, no filler. This website makes if fairly easy to compare contents V price.

12 tins is £9.50 in most supermarkets, that I've seen, if that helps
 
Many moons ago my dog was a runner up in the Butchers Lean and Tasty 'Fittest Dog of the year' competition, as advertised in H&H. I wound up with a ton of the cans and, not just saying this 'cos it was free, it was good stuff and I ended up feeding it on and off to one in later life that had two bouts of pancreatitis. IIRC the tripe loaf recipes were suitable as well.
 
Home bargains 24 cans £25:99 (£1:08 a can) at our Asda its 90 pence dearer to buy a 6 pack than to buy 6x single tins, 6 pack £9:00 6 × singles£8:10 (1:35 a tin)24pack £27 online. always look at the kilo price.

Lots of ideas thanks - am trying him on the Butchers 'simply gentle' range, designed for sensitive digestions and only slightly higher in fat content than their lean range. Managed to get 24 tins of Amazon for £20.99 so financially a lot more favourable to any Chappie I have managed to find!
