My youngster lost condition over the winter. He was on ad lib hay, speedy beet, chaff and balancer. (Out with good weather , in at night) So i added a little barley to his feed which worked a treat. He has put on condition and is looking good again without looking fat. My problem is i think he has an intolerance to barley as he began to itch like mad (Worming and de-lousing up to date). But as soon as i cut the barley the itching subsided. As the spring grass is coming in soon i probably wont need to replace the barley but can anyone suggest any alternitive to barley, something which allows them to put on weight and condition without the fizzyness of oats?
