I've seen lots of posts on here about using an alum powder solution to heal and harden sore mouths. Does anyone have any suggestions on how strong I should mix my solution with the powder? I am intending to use the application method of bandaging a bit to soak in the solution

Make sure you wear gloves. It is a metalloestrogen and has been strongly linked to breast cancer

Thanks fides I had no idea!

There are lots and lots of posts on here with people suggesting using it on the mouth, many seem to have had excellent results so I assume it isn't dangerous. I would welcome and any advice if anyone knows different though!

I have done lots and lots of googling and searching on here and I can't find much in the way of alum being so dangerous. Lots of good things written on here about it especially. Does anyone have any links? Alum is available to buy on amazon I believe although I haven't got that far yet!

Purchase a block of shaving alum which is safe (after all its used for nicks after shaving!), or if your bloke wet shaves, ask him if he has any spare.

Google will find it. Taylor of Old Bond St £7.95

"Alum" can mean different chemicals. What Fides refers to is not the same chemical. Shaving alum is safe.

It is also found as a constituent in deodorants
