I've seen a few older Rices advertised with aluminium floors, need to replace my wooden one, and just wondered where people go to get an ally floor fitted?

I'm on the Wales/Shropshire border in case anyone knows of anywhere near!

i need a new floor on my rice, the guy quoted me for both wood and aluminium floors. i don't know much about floors but think wooden should be ok :s

We did our ourselves. We bought a couple of sheets of aluminium, removed the boards and used them as a template for the sheets, cut it out and fit it. We also used ply over the top so we could screw in offcut strips of rubber mats which work a treat and means the boards dry nicely. The ply also softens the noise of the road underneath.

We saved hundreds by doing it ourselves and wasn't actually that difficult.

Please be aware that if there is not a thick membrane between the aluminium floor and the supporting metal structures that the aluminium floor will over time corrode and drop out. This is because the horses urine will act as an electrolyte between the two alloys/metals causing galvanic action which will cause corrosion.

Yes very good point and just using a sheet of alloy isnt the greatest idea, the alloy planks are strong and light or the phenol ply these are the only safe things to use... standard ply or marine ply is a no no as it rots very quickly and isnt much cheaper than the phenol mesh floor ...
