I'm just looking into this now. Where do people get the flooring from? I'm assuming its a DIY job the same as fitting a wooden floor? How much difference does it make in terms of weight. I've read about some horses not liking them as they can be springy. Has anyone got an ally floor and doesnt like it? I'd like to keep the weight down as low as possible hence the ally floor, but my prefence would always be wood, so I'm just curious to hear peoples thoughts before I go ahead.
 
Aalco do a good range, it's called planking. Some branches are very good at advice, others less so......

One thing with fitting is that it is vital to isolate the ali from steel, otherwise they corrode with potentially grim consequences. I think modern structural adhesives would do this (think not recommend, NB - speak to adhesive makers tech depts) but another approach is a layer of 1mm neoprene tape.

All in all unless weight is critical I would stick with timber - either keruang or buffalo board...

PS Aalco will be able to give you a weight if you give them an area.....
 
I've done aluminum over wood before, so know about the corrosion. I used neoprene type tape last time. I do want to keep the weight down but if its only going to be a difference of 50kgs then I'm not sure its worth it. I'll have a look see if we have an aalco nearby.
