It can be depressing reading some posts - so many people dissing their livery yard - I feel like we are all tarred with the same brush. Has anyone out there got good things to say? Here, we work our bums off to manage and care for our full livery horses and it is a constant juggling act to keep horses and owners happy. I think we succeed judging by the waiting list.

It is not easy and yes, some yards are less professional than others, but maybe try and see things from the perspective of your yard owner/manger or staff before slagging them off unjustly.

Just had to get that off my Boobies! x

I've got some good things to say!

Love love love my yard and YO... I'm so lucky to be on such a great yard... sounds like yours is excellent... It's a shame some people have had less than good experiences...

May I ask where you are, GGRider? PM me if you prefer. I may be looking for livery for my two when I move house if I cant find somewhere to rent that will take the dogs actually in Exeter. Thanks!

I think people generally like dissing each other I'm afraid. I'm a teacher and I get to hear soooooo many parents complaining about this and that, with no idea of how hard we work or what we put into the job.
So, I know exactly how you feel... it's so infuriating, and so frustrating trying to keep everyone happy!!!

I tend to find its the people on the yard that are a problem, I cannot recall having too much of a problem with the yard as I am not fussed by many facilities when it comes down to it. To have them all would be fine too, but I currently keep my girl at grass as my stable isnt even built yet, it has running water but no electric and I love it, one other person.
Anyway, I digress, my point is, I have liked all of my yards and have left each time generally because of some people on them, last move was to save £50 a month though.

Your right though, some great yards out there where the owners work very hard to keep it all going nicely, I can see how much hard work it can be trying to please all us livery yard owners.

the horses are never a problem, just the odd owner. every yard has different ways of doing things and different standards and rules. owners can be quite fixed in their wants and moans! it is a bloody hard living with high overheads and little profit. i couldnt even pay myself minimum wage, staff are correctly paid. its a lifestyle job.

I am on a nice yard.

Its big (50+ horses) but YO goes out of his way to make everyone happy. Horse loves it too as he has loads of horses to talk too! It is also crazily cheap and has a waiting list of over 30 people wanting to move.

There are always arguments between liveries, but everyone enjoys a little gossip once in a while!

I think people get more fed up of people on the yard. Not everyone is lucky enough to be on a yard with a fab bunch of people. I am sure there are some great yards out there with great yard Managers. I guess sadly most people use the forum for opinions on or to vent about their livery yard situation. Might be strange for people to come on here and post just to say how fab the livery yard they keep their horse on is?

I am sure they do though but more within a thread going off topic a little.

I love the yard we're on now! Admittedly, we've been through a lot that were simply awful - YOs, facilities and/or other liveries - but the one we're on now has two super YOs, brilliant facilities and plenty of lovely liveries (:

People are never happy.. you'll rarely find a yard thats 100% perfect, usually something has to give! Some people are just never satisied, never will be no matter where they go.. every yard has the serial movers pass through!

You have to get used to it on here GGRider

I think most of us on here who are YOs tend to ignore the slagging off posts after a while

Whenever someone has a problem the whole forum goes "move yards asap!!". I wonder if anyone ever tries to communicate with YOs/other liveries to try to sort problems out, and I also wonder if the serial yard movers ever wonder "is it me??"

I love my yard!!! It's the best that I've ever been on though out our years which is quite a few!! YO does a big bbq in summer and makes yummy cakes. They do so much for us and some people are not always happy and do moan over silly little things.

I think I'm quite lucky - I have a good YO, reasonable prices and even individual t/o! Even if she did think I was asking her for a kiss tonight when I was talking to my horse

I was thinking something similar the other day, there's so many posts on here that talk about "bitchy" and "problem" people on yards - but with so many people registered on here, surely some of the people on here ARE those people?! just one of those random ponderings....

can i just say ggrider, ive never heard of you but having a nosey at your website, very impressive and you line up of clinics are fab. deffinatley will be looking at attending some.

I like the yard I am at. My horse is settled, my YM totally looks after each horse as if it were her own. Yes there are things I would like to have, but this yard is worth compromises as the level of care is second to none and I like to think that I get on with all the other liveries. Yes, we all have our off days and misunderstandings, but when it all comes down to it. We are all there for 1 common aim.. our equines

The fact I have some great friends is a bonus that I enjoy. Have been there over 5 years and wouldn't like to see it change.

i love my yard, yes odd fallout between liveries - nothing major though. Decent prices and they accomodate me. so i well chuffed!

People don't tend to post when everything is running smootly - those of us who are happy with our yard don't really have anything to say. The number of posts which moan about yards are probably quite a small proportion of forum members so YOs should take it that they are doing a good job!

I love my yard and my YO is fab. We all get on, with the odd niggle here and there - but we can sort those out as adults by talking to each other.

I think Rowreach makes an interesting point about yard hoppers. Anyone can end up on a bad yard once or maybe even twice, but if it happens time and time again, maybe the yards aren't the problem
