We rent land from a local farmer and we always leave one field (15 acres) to cut hay from. Farmer cuts it / bales it etc in return for taking haylage from round the edges (he got around 40 bales this year). The rest of the field was cut for hay mid week last week.

I was up to feed horses a while ago and the whole field is CLEAN - turns out he's baled the whole lot for haylage and 'added it to his pile'. I have NO IDEA how many bales he took off it (bearing in mind we usually get 40 + round bales).

Farmer very un-bothered by whole thing (farm has been sold and he leaves in 3 months time) but I am now without any hay and I've paid for the field rent till the end of October!! I haven't even grazed my horses on it once this year as I was leaving it for the hay

Sorry - this is probably a pointless rant of a post but am seriously un-chuffed

I think since you rent the field and there hasnt been any agreement to vary he should be paying you for the blimim haylage!! Or if not that he should pay for you to get some other hay. Seriously!

I would also be terminating the agreement and requesting the rest of the rent back!

poor you!

he needs to either give you the value of the haylage in money or hay, failing that i would expect the rent money back for this year up until october! why pay rent for sumthing you havnt been able to use and he's taken the haylage. the cheeky b**ger.

I would be furious too.Not more solicitors letters what a time your having at the moment. Its as bad as my saga with my horse and insurance company.

Hope your oh gets it sorted

Good result maybe things will start working out for you now.Your oh must have handled it diplomatically.

is there no chance of the new farmer letting you rent the same field on the same terms?? if not good luck finding one, glad it all worked out for you
