Woo hoo going on my first ever hunt soon and am so excited.Ive always wanted to go but now am finally going at the age of 21! lol
Can I ask are you allowed to cuddle to dogs before you set off they are so cute

I think you might be busier with your horse!

Hounds are not particularly cute and cuddly when they have a job to do - they won't bite or do anything bad but will be excited and looking forward to their day. Once they come out of the lorry, the huntsman doesn't tend to hang around for too long but will move off reasonably sharpish, particularly with autumn hunting.

Hope you have a great day - who are you going out with?

Do give the dear little doggies a cuddle - they'd love it!!

Seriously though, have a really good time. Hunting is great and good for the soul so have a good time and don't be afraid to ask people for help/advice - report back won't you?

To start with am only going on a few early morning hunts not all dayers yet just to get my girlie and my self used to the surroundings and hounds and the general gist of the hunt then after a few of them an all day hunt hopefully.
Going with the Easton Harriers, a freind is part of them and doing all the arranging for me going to be so exciting ! I think girlie will enjoy it once shes stop spooking at things and relaxes

Wonderful to hear, yet again, there is another "first-timer" out there. I have been hunting since 1956! Just stand still (quietly) at The Meet, preferably well out of the way at the back end. Then listen and watch. DO NOT EVER wear a Red Ribbon on your mount's tail (sort out the manners at home first) and ALWAYS carry a beater in order to whack it if it kicks out at another horse - or worse, a Hound. Go away from The Meet as "Tail End Charlie". I always do after 50-odd years. The mayhem can then ensue in front of you and you can see and avoid it! ALWAYS look behind you if you are motoring and need to change direction (much as one would look in the mirror whilst driving) or you might just bring down someone else coming up behind. Don't wear your normal "brakes" - put something a little stronger in. Have fun and do let us all know how you get on.
