Am having a lesson on a mechanical horse later today...wish me luck

I have booked a half hour lesson to see what its like. Lord only knows what the instructor will make of me, I havent had a lesson for a zillion years

Also am so unfit that I am sure I will go bright red in the face and start puffing and wheezing like crazy. (Too many ciggies) The teacher will probably fall about laughing.

Good luck! I really enjoyed my lesson on a mechanical horse.
Two things I learned were to take your own hat in case you have to wear one (health and safety!), and make sure you wear something you're not too ashamed of as there are a LOT of mirrors surrounding you from all angles

Thanks for the tips. EEK I hadnt thought about mirrors - thats going to be a nightmare seeing myself from all angles huffing and puffing and flapping about. I am going to a place in East Grinstead, the instructor is someone called Michelle (another HHO'er gave me her details). I am rather dreading it....

I has a lesson on one last Wednesday, it was good but very strange- I learn't a lot about my position though! Good luck and take a hat as you will most likely have to wear one.

There are a few around the country... they are also called "simulators".. so you may find one near you under equine/horse simulator.

Generally used for riders seeking to improve their position, they have walk/trot/canter gaits, and some have a computer which gives a readout telling you how balanced your weight/contact/leg aids etc are....

You don't have a location listed so I don't know where you are, but Mary Wanless has one at Overdale Equestrian Centre in the Cotswolds, there is the one mentioned above, and there is one near Haverhill is Suffolk, at Ashen EC.

Update after my lesson, it was really good! Michelle was lovely. I found it took a second or two to get used to the fact that it wasnt going anywhere and that you dont get the 'help' from the forward motion of the horse, but it is quite realistic (although wish my horse cantered like that!). It was great to really concentrate on your position without having to worry about the horse. The mirrors were useful to see whats happening and the fact that the instructor can stand along side and not just point out whats not quite right, but actually help you make the changes 'in flight' was great. I have booked another one for next week!

weezy - have you tried contacting Overdale, rather than Mary?

I can't believe she'd have it sitting there without use for so much of the time?

Last time I spoke to Karin it was deffo just for course use

Will give her a ring and see if this has changed though as I desperately need a sesh! My pelvis is SO out when I got on a schoolmaster recently we did perfect travers without me asking

Tam has just bought one- come have a play on ours at some point if you want. She's going to be teaching on it and I think it could be a fun party game
