Your not a bad mum, this time of year is really trickey, at night a bit too cold, misty mornings and then blazing sun in the afternoon.
I have turned mine out 24/7 naked and hate the thought of them getting cold, but having started a new job which involves long hours, dont have much choice. Its the horrible choice, too hot, too cold?
It seems loads on the forum have ditched their rugs and so I dont feel too bad.
If a horse gets too hot, they tend not to move around that much and drink plenty, so I am sure no damage has been done and he forgives you.
I went away for a few days and my friends were looking after my horse. soon as i was away, Tilly came in season and turned into a psycho pony!! No one could catch her to take her rug off for two days! By the time they did she had big bald patches where she'd got so hot her winter coat just felt out in clumps!!!
mine has been naked during the day for weeks and just a light weight on at night and shes clipped!! she has her fly rug on tonight as she is being bothered by them already!!!
No not at all. It's warm now from so early in the morning that even if too cool it will only be for an hour or too and there will always be a warm corner.
Mine have been sweating so much in the morning with a fleece on even at 7am tht they are now naked also!
Yes ours were sweaty in the mornings too, we though it was probably best to leave rugs off, at least if they're cold they can run around! They can't take their own rugs off
No you are not a bad mum. My neddy is naked for the first time tonight and she is stabled!!!. But dreading the stable stains in the morning. But she will come clean. Hopefully.
