Sorry guys, quick question. I've spent years and years trying to keep weight on my horse. Shes got the worlds quickest metabolism and never seems to keep weight on, I've found out shes actually been like this all her life so there isnt anything wrong with her *phew*. But the other day someone claimed she was looking quite porky and its got me a bit worried since shes starting to get abit of arthiritus and I dont want her to feel like shes got excess weight on her legs.
Opinions pleeasse?

Sorry for big images and probably being a pain in the ar**

She looks okay, but how a horse looks and how it feels can be a little different.

Can you feel her ribs? Is there a fat pad on her shoulder? Has she got fat pads on her rump?

I assume she's a bit older so I'd suggest that if you can feel her ribs, I'd ignore any fat pads. Older horses need a bit of cushioning, a bit of warmth and like you say can be hard to keep weight on. I'd rather see a well rounded oldy than a thin one!

Her ribs can be felt and until recently be seen quite easily. Damn skinny pony! She's got no fat pads since we've checked as my vet was thinking she might have cushings :/. And yeah she's 22 but still in full time work, I got sent a pic of her as a 5year old...she was still struggling then to keep her weight on!

omg the person who said she looks porky wants to see my lass :( your gorgeous horse looks fine happy an sparkling - ok be aware of her weight and as an oldie monitor it but sweetheart she is credit to you so be proud and you are aware of what weight can do - thumbs up hun - - watch and act - but seems you doing a fine job all ready :)

thanks for that, you genuinly made me smile and feel proud of my pony haha :). I always think its rude when people comment on horses weight in a untactful manner. You wouldnt say it about the owners if they were looking fatter than usual...so why the poor pony haha. Ill just keep a close eye on her and hope she can keep this d*** weight on!

Tell me about it! Its one of the hardest things with my horse haha. Shes never put a foot out of line when being ridden/on the floor etc. But her weight is one of the hardest things ive ever done with her!
This is what she looked like as a baby so thats her natural weight I'm presuming. Without all this aid haha and massive haynets haha.

@amymay. sorry im not very experienced. i suppose she does still look alright there. Just abit of a baby haha.

@aimsymic. Thanks so much :) Shes my little angel who I'd do anything for. Shes always acted very youthful anyway haha, she was galloping around her field today looking very pleased with herself.
