Really hope I'm not going to get into trouble for this post, I read terms and conditions and don't think this counts as there is no money involved? If I'm wrong then HUGE apologies.

We are looking for an experienced, reliable and kind person to bring their horse to join our three at our home. We will provide a large stable, all feed and bedding and hay and post and rail turnout in return for all stable duties for our 3 horses. This will mean mucking out and feeding am and bringing in and feeding pm (in the summer they stay out) and poo picking the field. We are looking for someone friendly and committed and are willing to help out cover holidays where needed. Beautiful area with lovely hacking.

We are in Hertfordshire between Ware and Bishops Stortford

Please contact me if interested.

I'm doing exactly that with someone i know.
Free grazing and stable in exchange for helping me out a bit with mine to give me a break.
It's working out great at the mo, although I would like her to take a little bit more of an active role in poo picking side of things! I'm going to talk to her about it today!

hi, thats exactly how i have managed to have a horse. i get free stable, turnout , hay & straw in return for looking after the YO 2 horses when she is working away, which is very often! so yes it can be done & works well for all involved.
hope you find someone.

This is how I managed to afford my horse through uni looking after a ladies two horses Mon to Fri whilst she worked, in return she paid my livery and some hay costs. Was fab and meant I could keep River all through uni!

It does work. Make sure you get an agreement in writing at to what was expected and given in return though...

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for responses I really hope we find someone soon as my bf is away and I cant visit him until I get horses covered!

Twirly I'm only about 5 mins from Tesco's near Great Hadham golf club, too far?

Really hoping I can find somebody nice and friendly who I can ride with too and hoping that it might help someone out.

Sadly yes it is a bit, I'm out past the airport so it would be about 12 miles from me, 50 miles a day on top of the 30 I commute to work would kill my car such a shame!

Good luck finding someone - have you advertised in Folly's and Horsebits?

It sounds great on the surface but imo not such a good deal if there is no accommodation on the basis that DIY livery is normally say no more than £50 per week inc hay bedding etc. That means that in exchange for £50 worth of stable you are wanting 3 horses done F/t in the winter for 16.66 each horse.

You'd never find a freelance person willing to do that workload for £ 50 a week imo.

I hope I am proved wrong but I certainly wouldn't rush to take up your offer. Sorry.

I agree LHS I think it is fair enough to 'help someone out' in return for stabling but to do three horses completely is a lot. I pay £50 a month for each of my horses for stable and grazing so it would mean doing 3 horses for that!

reread post and it includes bedding hay and feed but that still wouldn't be worth it IMO. (that costs approx £15-20 a week for my big mare plus her £12.50 stabling costs would mean 32.50 for at least 7 hours work and twice daily travelling)

I have had a lady doing it for me for the last three years but she has just moved her horse as her finacial situation has changed so she doesn't need free stabling anymore.

Hopefully I will find someone that it will help out and work for both of us. The horses are at my home so it is very secure, and I often check on them and skip out late at night, the stables are much bigger than standard ones we use good quality bedding and feed and I can cover odd days and holidays which makes for hopefully an agreeable and flexiable agreement for the right person.

It is a pleasant and quiet enviroment with beautiful hacking and would suit someone who likes to be around horses but is maybe struggling to afford to keep theirs?

I have a nasty feeling that there could be business rates issues if private stables are used for horses other than yours, even if no cash is involved. May be wrong, just remember vaguely reading something in H&H.
