Am I alright to ride?

Both my horses are regularly shod every seven weeks however my farrier only texts me on the day he's coming to tell me he is coming and so I couldn't make the last one. He hasn't responded to me ringing or texting to reschedule. I've given up and been trying to get hold of other farriers and have finally found one who SHOULD (fingers crossed and awaiting to hear back as he is getting his van back from the garage today / tomorrow) be able to do it this week however I'm just being a tad paranoid about riding. One of mine has lost a shoe (he has awful hooves) whilst the other who has fantastic hooves has held them on. I'd say they've had them on around the 9 - 10 week mark.

Am I alright to ride the one who's still got all four on or should I just lunge? I can't leave him not worked because he is the fizzy type who goes a little hyper. He feels 100% sound (I was working in the arena yesterday) but I just feel a little paranoid and don't want to cause discomfort.

Praying the farrier gets back to me ASAP otherwise I might start tearing my hair out! :(

Why is today different from yesterday? The horse is so far overdue I'd have thought one more day, assuming the shoes are still well fixed on would make no difference. I'd see if the new farrier will book you in for regular slots though if you can't drop everything and turn up when the farrrier feels it's ok to turn up.

I know what you mean - I'm more asking for reassurance or a "NO DON'T DO IT." rather than anything else. I'm moving into Edinburgh in the next few months so will probably be moving farriers. I know it's frustrating especially as the times he texts me to say he's coming used to be schooldays (I've since left) where I can't get out until too late! :(

i normally get mine done every 6 weeks - i'd be a bit dubious about keeping them on that long but as DOD said if they were on yesterday 24 hours isn't goign to make an awful lot of difference and if you have a school i'd ride.

sorry just realised you normally get them done every 7 - i'd just have a word and book in when he comes 7 weeks from then

Ours are done every 8-9 weeks and we always book our next appointment whilst he is on the yard with us. Ours do have very good feet though and don't grow very quickly. They ate also only In moderate work do don't tend to wear them out (each set of shoes usually last about 4 months as they are often refitted)

4 months?! Wow you must be so lucky and not have to do any road work. I alway give myself a little high 5 :o if we can keep the same lot on for 12 weeks!

OMG.In my shod horse I am seeing changes in the foot balance at three weeks the feet are out of balance at four and they are shod in the fifth week and do no canter work or jumping that week until they are shod.
I would be hyperventilating if the shoes had been that long
