ive booked a lesson for Thursday and Saturday morning. When i say 'booked' i mean when i had my lesson last Saturday, my instructor called out on her way out the yard 'im ok for next Thursday!' and i said 'yeah thats fine!' and then my old dressage instructor txt me and said she could now do Saturday mornings, and I said that was fine too.

do you think two lessons in a week is two much?

NOTE: it won't be every week, and I'll ride him on Sunday morning but then I'm away for a week so he will only be lunged probably about 4 times in that week.

what do you all think?

yeah that was what i was thinking.........just didn't want to tire him too much. the lesson on Saturday will be less tiring than Thursdays lesson thats for sure!

see there i go, worrying again *roll eyes*

i am soft as poo

I have a lesson 5 days a week as I'm hell bent on doing some decent level dressage! The only way you improve is by putting the work in, 2 lessons in one week is not unreasonable.

You mean of the horse??? Not at all.... should be more than capable of two lessons a week.... think of riding school horses, they can have 2 lessons a day 6 days a week!!

I wouldn't worry - I sometimes think I'm being mean to Major asking him to do lots of hard work and then I remember I got him from a riding school where he was doing 3 or 4 full hour lessons a day!

So that helps take away any guilt I might feel

I was the same the week I took him to a show and did 2 jumping classes and an in hand class - felt like I was asking so much of him and yet we go to hunter paces and he'll happily go around twice at full speed!

So I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine!

I had probs with conflicting info from two different instructors. One gave me my confidence and the other is alot more technical so I eventually chose!!

funny you should say that because i was going to post something about having two instructors.........i got on really well with my old dressage instructor and my new one i have only just got used to (she is tough!).

I'll carry on having two for the moment and see if it works, if not then i will have to choose!

Agree about conflicting stuff... I used to have 2 lessons a week when i lived in Edinburgh... One was a dressage lesson with Adam Grant and one was a jumping clinic with Les Smith...

The only problem I had was that my horse stopped jumping... and so i also asked adam to help with the jumping for a few weeks.. and the different approaches of each instructor really confused me - advice was very conflicting (ie. One said smack him and chased me over the jumps with a lunge whip - and the other worked on getting me calm and less stressed - i wonder which one worked...

)

So - I would say 2 is ok for different things - but when you have 2 instructors working on the same issues - there can be a conflict...

Think i would have a lesson every day if i could afford it! Like someone above said "theres no difference in a lesson and a good schooling session".

Me and Jed tend to work so much better with my instructor on the ground shouting at us!!!

i agree! when i have my lessons and someone telling me what i need to be doing its so much easier! cant afford them all the time though, shame

one instructor is doing flatwork for jumping, and the other is pure dressage so hopefully they're won't be too much conflict - but we'll see!
