Hi all, leading on from last post about corkey bolting with me. He has got progressively more stressed and silly.
So I have decided to move him to a yard with fantastic turnout/grazing as opposed to constantly being stuck in the school or stable because yard owner doesnt want the slightest bit of damage done to fields. I understand in the rain to restrict turnout as to avoid complete destruction but surely not on a day like this?
This is the main issue, the others I can just about ignore but lack of consistent turnout is really getting to me and making for a complete lune of a horse.
Do you think I am justified or being unreasonable in any way?

Haven't read your previous posts but sounds like a good plan. Turnout is a very high priority for me so wouldn't say your being unreasonable in the slightest.

Totally justifiable in my opinion. I wouldn't ever keep my horses on yards where there isn't 24/7/365 turnout available, within reason. I wouldn't expect my horses to be out when it's likely that the fields will get trashed, but my two would never be happy living in 24/7 through the winter.

Ultimately you have to do what's right for you and your horse. Good luck and I hope it works out for you. :) x

Lack of regular turnout is not fair on any horse and is a good reason to move yards, I do not understand why so many yards are so restrictive if they cannot offer enough turnout they should expect people to leave.

Turnout is important.

So is feeding. Dunno what you're feeding him at the moment but if you're feeding him lots, then try an experiment: downfeed him to just grass or hay for fodder, and a bowl of non-molassed chaff (with a bit of water and any supplements he needs and few carrots for succulents) for any mealtimes. See if the lower-energy but lots-to-chew diet helps to chill him out.

He is on a bit of hi fi original and handull of non heating cubes and as much hay as he can eat. def looking to cut out the cubes as although non 'heating' really aren't helping.
