After a few years of not regularly riding (although own my PC pony still and keep him active) I was offered a beautiful well bred 16.3 6 YO Hanoverian to ride which had been broken and turned away due to the owners illness (owner is a close family friend).
Could do as I pleased with the mare and owner was grateful for any thing I did... Lovely mare if a bit of a cow in hand, huge potential but no muscle/condition/top line having practically lived out mostly untouched since it was bought as a foal...
After about a month had an accident in the field and 6 months later is still unsound - vet has no idea but tried every thing had x-rays etc...
Move forward 5 months and when visiting my friends new yard (which I subsequently have moved my old boy to) I was offered another 6 YO to ride. 15.3 Arab x which had been out of work due to various injuries and aliments...
A pleasure to ride and despite being green is very honest. Hoped to get her fit, go on the last of the few hunting meets and be jumping BN and Disco going into the winter season 2013/2014
Agreed to take on formal loan from April as owner is pregnant
However - she too had a field accident resulting in lameness and then went lame to mud fever and then to an old problem in her foot... I must say throughout the last month of lameness she has had vet, physio and farrier and had every thing done to get her sound
She has now been lame for 3 weeks...
Am I just bad luck!?!?
Just want to bloody ride! Have the bug again!
Just to note - I wasn't looking for a new horse when either of these were offered to me and not looking to buy another one due to several factors with work
