Am I being overly cautious?

Hellooo all.

As some of you know I ride a 16.3hh/17hh WB gelding and have this year, been given permission to do a bit of competing on him.
We havent really done much jumping together, but both of us have done alot in the past.

Now, this will be our first ever show together on Saturday, that is if I can find some transport to take us there, which is looking ever more doubtful.

My question is, do you think that, as i think would be wise, I should just go along, namely to see how he reacts to the show ground, and take him in to do one or two clear rounds so we can take our time and do alittle schooling over the clear round course without any pressure.
OR do you think I should enter him into the novice horse?

I know we're both capable of it, but I think i'd prefer to take him just for the clear rounds this time round, namely so we dont have any bad experiences to put us off at this early stage in our partnership.

You're input gratefully received.
Pics in the gallery if you want a wee look at him.

Thanks in advance

Kirsty

Go for it - some of my most memorable rides have been ones where I fell of 4 times, and never completed it.

I think you've answered your own question.....

can you enter on the day? if so why don't you do the clear round and then if its going well enter the novice?
I built up to jumping a 2'6" course last year and after jumping the 2'3" and feeling really confident entered the 2'6" class and came 5th

so see how the CR goes and make a decision based on that - most important though make sure you both enjoy youselves

I think go for it....you will never know what happens if you don't!!!

I took a haflinger that i had NEVER ridden before into a 3ft class, we went clear but were too slow....the YO had put me on him to take him round so his son could then go round on him....He went clear for me then stopped at fence one with YO's son!!! If i was you i would push yourself you'll regret it if you don't!

Haha GTs! Mine too funnily enough... I was riding a 5 yr old girls Shetland... I was 15.

Lol Katy... hmm. Im not so sure... I would love to do a class with him, but I really dont want to spoil how much he trusts me now by overdoing it. Hes very scatty and tends to just go vertical if too much goes on at once!

I can enter on the day Pidge.. but its 3 times the price that way. Meep!

Hiya Boodle, is it Dundonald you are going to? if it is, judging by what someone told me it should be quiet as Kilmaurs was seemingly the same, i think you should go and try the clear round if only to get your confidence up being at a show with him, i`m giving the kids another lesson on Saturday so i`m not going, but good luck whatever you decide.

Yep it is Dundonald.
It was quite quiet last year.
Shame you cant come along, I do love Dundonalf show, I must admit!

We'll see how it goes.. I suspect we'll end up just doing a clear round or two and calling it a successful day!
