Maybe the weather is getting to me, but just browsing and saw this advert, I actually swore outloud when I read it.
Surely the poor horse deserves a chance? Everyone has mental cases at moment due to weather and lack of turnout/exercise, but chuck a new home/owner/routine into the mix and surely you can expect a bit of trouble?
They say they are novice - to me add says 'not got a clue'!

Or is it just me?

I think there was a post from the owner on here.... think she did admit to being nervous novice and the horse was bought from a friend/dealer/RI. Hope it all works out well.
 
Poor horse. To me that reads as though she never rode him before she bought him so sat on him after 3 weeks of owning him for the first time and he must not have been the calmest of rides. I'd suggest she 'got a clue' before she goes looking for a new horse to ride!
 
numptys!! but then you would be amazed how many of them there are out there buying horses. we sell quite a few and had a lovley pony for sale before christmas. a family came and tried him, liked him and wanted to take him there and then, i told them id rather they had it vetted they said why? and then when i asked where they were going to keep him they said in a field up the road from there house and he would be on his own. they would just tie him to the gate to groom him and tack him up. no amount of me suggesting that they would be better on a livery yard to start with as there would be people around would change there mind, he was fully clipped and they wanted him to live out rugged up but still out 24/7 as no stable or shelter they said. when i told them i wasnt happy and that i wouldnt sell him to them, they were very unpleasant. wasnt a cheap pony either, but some people just have no idea unfortunatly

God that horse hasn't been given an ounce of a chance has it - 3 weeks?!!! That's NO time at all even if you were riding it from the outset but the horse hasn't been ridden/done anything for 3 weeks. I think that'd be enough to make any horse a bit lively!

Do people expect horses to be machines these days or something? One button for go and one for stop?
 
She obvs rushed into buying him which is not a good idea. So sounds a bit dodgy to me- was someone trying to get rid of him quick? I feel bad for the horse, but I have to say that advert, altho honest, would put me off from viewing him if iwas looking to buy

I would probably still brand myself a novice rider and i am more than capable of excepting the fact a horse who is being kept in, and probably not had their feed adjusted for the amount of exercise they will lack is going to act like a fruitcake, i would if i was a horse!

I think 'idiot' would be a better description than 'novice rider'.
You never know i guess, the horse could just be a little challenging and knock her confidence, maybe give him more of a chance though

Glad it's not just me then - does make you wonder who these people are that sell a horse to someone that doesn't realise/know you have to give them time to settle in normal circumstances, never mind in this weather.
Poor lad hope he finds someone lovely.
 
I'd like to meet a horse that isn't livelier than normal after moving yards, getting a new rider and not being ridden for 3 weeks

IMO the horse she is after is not so much 'suitable for novice horse' and somewhere closer to 'rocking horse'

...that said at least she is bold enough to realise she can't cope and is looking for a better home for him

oh another poor horse. Lots of sad adverts about tonight. I wish i could rescue them all. It does make me cross to see horses belonging to people who don't have a clue. My new pony has loads of problems due to his previous owners being numptys. (i did get him dirt cheep though so shouldn't complain to much) But as usual i am left to pick up the pieces as will the next owner of this horse. I hope he finds a nice perminant home. 3 weeks isn't long to get to know a horse but then again atleast she won't mess him up any more if she sells him now. My pony was owned by numpty owner for 8 months!!!!

its a very clever ad to make people think what most of you are thinking so far.

I have known horses sold on before by so called "novices" where the horse was "sold to them as a novice ride" but isn't.

Along come loads of people waving cash to the "novice numpty"

Only to discover after not too long that they are the ones that have been taken for a ride (excuse the pun).


Just a thought. Stranger things have happened.
 
If the horse is in new surroundings and been stuck in because of weather no wonder he's lively! If it was me I'd give him a little longer to settle

My horse was previously owned by a teenage girl who had him for a week before sending him to the dealer I got him from. For some reason she wanted a 17hh strong, forward going German warmblood, and the found him too much, even to handle in the stable! Horse is marginally bargy but not bad at all compared to some, and kind, and a gentleman under saddle! He's just enormous and powerful but that wasn't exactly hidden when she chose him! I contaced his original owner and he too was astonished as she had contacted him after a week to say she wanted to return him, but he said no. She paid 6k for him and I got him for 3.5k.

Why do people think they can buy horses on a whim, instead of making a reasoned decision and attempting at least to work through initial minor problems?
 
I can understand where you are coming from, but can see the other side too. I have had my own horse for 10 years, he is now retired and we were looking to take a step up with a new one, but we are very nervous riders.I went to a dealer, reputable we thought, tried a lovely horse, had it vetted which he passed(!) with flying colours. So we bought him. The dealers knew exactly what we were looking for as we had been to them to see others. Within 2 weeks we knew we had made a huge mistake. I was just too scared to ride him after the first couple of times, as he just kept threatinging to rear and buck. With a more confident rider he is fine, but as soon as I got on he knew I wasnt confident. So we put him up for sale. Better that than me keep trying, I get hurt, he gets hurt and the story goes on!
 
To be fair, they admit they are novice, so they wont understand new home stuck in ect, maybe the person who sold it to them has some "moral" responcability here, shame for the horse, but could be worse, as long as it is getting looked after properly would be more of a concern to me, maybe it's next owners will be better, but then they could be worse, hopefully not.

he should find a nice home provided someone with a bit of horse sense sees past the "he's killer" advert and sees "he's just a normal horse"

Poor boy, i hope he finds a lovely home. He looks like he would make a lovely horse for someone. I would go and have a look if I had the money.
 
hat's off to you monkeynuts, pity there weren't more sellers like you. there would be less unhappy horses around.

3 weeks is no time for a horse to settle, especially if he has been in due to the waether etc.
i agree, poor horse is better off with someone else. nice looking horse too. Hope he gets someone with a bit of sense.
