Am I being petty or would this annoy you too?

Some of you may remember my Keysoe report from there unaffiliated ODE in June ..
http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=534755

Where basically after a very long and stressful morning, of over height fences and a long hold up at the start of the XC with a mare that was E'd at the third fence hunter trialling the week before.
We had taken a step down a level, to find that we basically hadn't with the height of the fences! She is a young mare who was up for sale so we were trying to give her the best start at the same time as a good comp record.

As I left the venue, just after lunchtime, having been there since some ungodly hour! We were in 4th place which I was pleased with as she had run well but a better result would have been nicer as there weren't many in the section (10 i think)

I collected my frilly and left to put the pony and myself to bed, passed comment to a friend who was at the event later in the day about coming 4th to have a phone call later in the day from my friend that I was in 1st!

Checked the results the next day and sure enough it was true, I was happy but disappointed that I didn't get to celebrate my first win with the pony.

I emailed Keysoe to express my disappointment that I had been given the wrong result and left with the wrong frilly ect but generally had a good morning, this was just a let down. That was on 5th June .. I have still not had a response.

Not even so much as a 'Sorry about the mix up' it's now annoying me more that they can't even send out a simple response, so I have emailed them again asking for a response.

Would this annoy you or am I just being a bit petty?
I know it's just a frilly and at the end of the day the results are now up there and correct but it took them 2 hours from the end of the class to post the results up because they 'wanted to makesure they were correct'!

Sorry rant over! Jelly and Ice cream for anyone who makes it this far :)

It would annoy me not to get a response - as you say, it's not about the rosette, it's about the organisers having the manners to reply to correspondence.

One day later is a bit quick to send a response. Maybe write a letter/phone call instead. I often wonder how often some of these email accounts are checked.

Was the SJ or XC over height? as I fence judged there and the XC seemed the legal heights to me, especially as the 90 and 1m were over their BE course. Have you tried their FB page they normally respond pretty quick on there?

It would annoy me that I have had no response, yes.

It happens a lot and I think it's extremely unprofessional and creates a bad picture in my eyes!

(Well done on the placing though :) )

Yes id be really annoyed and i'd want my red rosette!! x I do think the rosette is important as its to show how well you've done and as a memory too x I think a lot of my rosettes and it doesnt matter how many i get, i still take pride in them and my horses achievement.

It would annoy me even more that they didnt have the decency to respond but i would of rang up and politely expressed my annoyance.

I understand that results take time and cant be updated every ten minutes but at least every half an hour/hour would be good.

Well done though xx

Thanks fo all the replies folks! Glad it's not just me :) and I'm not too surprised to hear that other people have not heard from the either!

shortstuff - the SJ which was very unfairly built and some of the XC fences were over height .. we were in the 70cm and it was the same as the 80cm course I did at Carlton the week before, I was glad I downgraded :( .. oh and yes I was sad enough to measure some of the xc fences ;)

I have emailed them today, I said I may well take myself to Aston Le Walls on the 12th Aug instead of running at Keysoe ODE. At least I would get some response if they messed up!

If I don't hear anything soon I will post on FB and see how long a response takes then, great advice :) Thanks!

I'm surprised to hear that, normally their SJ is good. Built tough, more to BSJA standards than easy. They do often have 'big' XC but TBH I think it happens a lot at unaffiliated. A few years ago I did a 2ft9 at Carlton and the last fence measured 3ft3! lol

Not unusual for Keysoe at all. Only to be expected.
Not hearing back is a lot less stressful than if you mentioned it face to face with them believe me!

I have always found Keysoe very helpful, just give them a call, there sj is always built by a bs course builder and your horse obviously didn't have a problem with the x-c if you won.

Well done on the win (just to add I have no tie to Keysoe it's just my local venue)!!!

Hmm keysoe's organisational skills leave alot to be desired ! I entered Evening Dressage back in february as they had the ROR class. My times were 7ish and 8ish but when I went to declare the first class didn't finish til 9pm (only one arena running) and they didn't even have me in the second class (novice) even though I had the times text to me. The woman (not Patsy) didn't believe me even when I showed her the text.
It was also self stewarding so a complete nightmare. In the end they let me go in on my time for the second test but had to swap judges and the poor person following me in got totally confused as they watched but obviously I did a totally different test. I left an SAE but had to ring a week later to remind them and never got the rosette. Oh and the lady said there wasn't an ROR class on that night even though the schedule clearly stated there was hence me going out in the evening in the middle of winter !!!!

Apart from that keysoe is my favourite venue :D

(scuse any typo's on my phone so can't edit)

I'd ring Simon and ask him to sort it out. tbh though if you won I can't quite work out why you're moaning about some of the fences allegedly being a few cms overheight!

I had to ride for my life around the SJ and the XC, I was as shocked as the next person to find out I had won, given we had SJ penalties, not a great dressage and time faults XC. I am not having a moan about the over height fences, it was mentioned as a point to add to rather stressful morning as we had been E'd at our third fence the week before, had not been XC since and had dropped down a class for a confidence giving run.

FinnMcCoul - Is no one allowed to have a general rant anymore? It's given me the chance to see that other people have also had the same problem and is that not the point of posting??

Quite likely they get lots of emails every day and yours has been buried before someone had the time to reply. I do the admin at a show centre and we get a large volume of emails every day and some do slip through. I suggest you send an SAE with a covering letter.

Yes you could tell the SJ was BS rather than BE, was a bit of a shock more than anything else!
No luckily she didn't have problem with the XC (she will school at 90-100, but competing that height is too much)and we are now putting it down to her being in season the week before, but it doesn't do much for the nerves and confidence to know you are facing the same thing that you screwed up the week before after thinking you'd made it easier for yourself!

Thanks, I will have to call at the weekend I don't really get chance tomake calls at reasonable hours during the week

Sorry to hear you have been ignored but well done.

To those who feel the OP didn't have a problem so shouldn't be raising the issue..... Hmm. Now that's. It logical. Don't we have class heights/ rules for a reason? Ok an extreme example but if someone mentions a portable not being fixed, but they didn't have an incident is it acceptable to say "don't whinge, you didn't have a rotational so what's the problem"?

You choose the height you compete at for your reasons, and really the publicised height should be the same as the built height I think.

Thank you, it's nice to know that someone understands the reasoning behind being annoyed that a class is over height!

Just out of interest, when you were measuring the fences, where were you measuring from? (at the bottom)
I've always found Keysoe to be professionally run tbh, & i started going there in their early days.
As for the supposed parallel with unfixed portables - the point is surely that that's a hidden danger. If you walk a course & don't like it for whatever reason,
