Hi

I keep my horse on diy and because i am only at uni 3 days a week, i'm really flexible and can be down the yard to put out/bring in whenever. And I love going down there.
Someone at the yard has asked me if I would like to put our horses together in a paddock, and I would like to, as I would my horse to have the company, but she also said we could share the bring in/turn outs - with her putting out and me bringing in. The thing is I have to go down in the morning anyway to muck out, and I really enjoy getting to the yard and seeing him all eager to see me and wanting his brekkie, and if she is gonna put out then I won't get to see him. Also I have only had him a month so far and he has just started to recognise me and neigh at me in the morning.
Anyway I thought she could put just her horse out in the morning then i will put mine out when i get there, and I will bring both in as dont mind, then if any days i want to ride get her to feed my horse as she usually goes down early.
Do you think i'm being silly wanting to go down and do all the jobs? As I really love just being down there.
And do u think she will mind me saying i'd rather i put him out?
Thanks - bit of a silly problem but jsut wondered what everyone thought.

I can totally see where you are coming from, especially if you are still bonding with your new horse. She probably just said she'd turn out in the morning for you thinking that would make it fair, since you'll be bringing hers in at night. I know if I ever ask a favour of anyone, I like to repay it with something similar, if you see what I mean?

Best just to be honest with her and say you're still happy to bring hers in, but would rather see your horse in the morning and she doesn't have to worry about turning him out (other than the odd occasion where you fancy a lie in?!

). I'm sure she won't mind if you explain why.

I am exactly the same as you I love seeing my horse in the morning! My yard owner keeps insisting she will put my horse out but I love doing her, even getting up at 5.20am every morning!! I would tell them that honestly you want to put your own horse out because you enjoy it (they will think you are mad!!) and say you still don't mind bringing theirs in, but could they put yours out if you were ever unable to (i.e you had a late night and want a lie in!!!).

I am just the same as you, paid for part livery for years but still went down every morning and every evening myself.

I moved from the yard 6 months ago to a field shared with another friend. We now take it in turns to do all the horses mornings and evenings. To start with I still used to go down twice a day but now I really apreciate not having to do this and my boy loves my friend, she always texts me if she is unsure what rug to put on him etc.
