At the livery yard I am on I have to go through a couple of gates to get to my paddock, on the final gate I go through two other liveries have started hanging their headcollars and leadropes off the bars off the gate, and also have thrown their rugs over the gate.

Now i don't like this, but am i just being petty (sp)?, OR is this a safety issue, i just have visions of one of mine spooking and getting caught up in something hanging from the gate.

How would you feel?,

Many thanks in advance to any replies to my silly question :)

To be honest I wouldn't be bothered at all? I don't see how it would affect yours, do they spend a lot of time hanging about at that gate? If they do then maybe just move the headcollars to the fence post but the rugs wouldn't cause an issue surely? Bar the fact your horses might trash them.

Do you have a really, really tidy house? Perhaps you just don't like things out of place. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
By the way, if you really like things to be very tidy you could always come around my house and help me!:D

if your horse can reach the headcollars (they are on the gate to his field)then I would remove them and put them on the floor outside the field. If anyone asked why I would say that your horse was playing with them and you were concerned that he may get caught on them or damage them, same goes for rugs.

It would not bother me as i will hang head collars on the gates in the morning so as not to carry back to the yard then back in the evenings.
also they are then there in case of an accident or emergency so horse can be caught straight away.

I don't like people leaving rugs on gates after seeing what happened when a friend's horse decided to play with one left of the gate - rug was destroyed and horse had some nasty cuts to its leg where it managed to get caught in a leg strap. It they're secured so they can't be carried off then I wouldn't mind though :)

Personally it wouldn't bother me but with the types of people around now I certainly wouldn't be leaving a rug laying around for someone to nick. Head collars and ropes are always a good idea to have handy at a gate, I've had to try catch 3 very large TB's once after them escaping from their field up the yard driveway and the fact their headcollars and ropes were at hand made it much easier and quicker!!

You are correct because its not the correct way to do things, its untidy and whats the point in rugs if you leave them out to be soaked or don't hang them up to air them. But I've had a terrible attention to detail since being on a couple of yards where everything was done correctly, although the horses on them were all valuable competition horses. Ever since, I've had a compelling urge to do things correctly!
