As most of you know I lost my beautiful mare several weeks ago, nothing can ever replace her.

But, I've seen a foal for sale that is the spit looks wise/ height/ markings, same kind face and it feels the same as when I bought my previous mare.

I already have a foal on young stock livery who is staying out as she's a cracker but I can't help but keep thinking about this other one too?

Am I being stupid to even consider another because its " that feeling"??

I'd want to keep the youngster with my current filly which is doable financially etc but I think I'm bring stupid?

?

my life motto is go with ur gut feelin :) i hsv done this befor nd found a horse for life :)

Going to go against the grain here and say, think twice and then wait a bit before leaping in.
Because she looks so similar to your much loved mare, while your head will tell you that the filly will be different in characteristics and basically her own unique self, -your heart may not be so ready to tell the difference.

Having two fillys is great for them growing up together, but will you have the time and energy to back and ride away both without compromising the amount of effort that you'd like to give to each?

That said, I am too, a believer in gut instinct but only after weighing up what I can offer to them.

Thanks all. No I know she will be utterly different in character etc but its that gut feeling, she's been there a while n I keep going back for a look....

She would live on full livery until she's 3 with my other girl (who's 2) so she would come back earlier. Current girl lives out with 5 other mates on brilliant care

Go on then. Go and have a look.............................;)

I thought about this too, when I had to retire one of my horses and the other one went lame and needed 6mths box rest and 6 mths rehab. Went to see a lovely yearling who was just lovely and I had "that feeling" however I also knew realistically that I wanted something to ride now (no matter how many people offer you their horses, it isnt the same) so I ended up getting a 4 yr old who had just been backed. I didnt get the "feeling" when I saw him (I did when I saw my retired chap) but we are having fun and I am getting to ride as well as look after the other two. He has also grown on me, so I sort of feel affecitonate towards him (everyone else thinks he is adorable but he just doesnt match either of my other two).

If you already have another to ride/arent bothered about the riding then I would have a look.

Thanks :-)

I will later as on phone at the moment.

Riding I do desperately miss it but I don't have the time to keep one ticking over through winter. My youngster lives out on full livery and they handle her etc which may se stupid but the place is an hour away and the only local one that I could find which lets babies live out twenty four seven! Locally they Are stabled or which for a baby I don't agree with tbh.

So yes I don't see her much yet but it works for now for us both and by the time she's 3.5-4 I will gladly have her back living in and daily turnout :/)

Hope that makes sense

Not quite the same, but we lost a beloved black lab in June (he was four). After much heart wrenching, we now have a beautiful pup, who shows more than a few of our last lab's characteristics.... he is a joy to have, and a real reminder of such happy times with Stan. Percy has definitely been here before :)

Go with the feeling... It normally leads us down the right track, it's how I try to live my life

I'd be glad if they are diff but its that feeling!

I've emailed and will call later! I've asked the breeder tho if she can keep till spring - obv me paying livery etc! So we'll see !!

I wouldn't be too concerned about this.

With a two year age gap (think that's right?) you'll be doing very different things with them for a fair while and backing will be spread out.

However I may have read age gap completely wrong!

Yep the gap would be 18 months - filly in question is 8 months. Ideally would stay with the breeder for a couple of months until I get a space where my other girl is

We'll see.

Isit rude to text?? Bit of a secret one this (again)!! My money but its a difficult one with horses being "pointless" in certain eyes!!

If so - wtf to ask about babies ? My last one I basically said 4 legs? Yep sold - it's cute :-o !!

The breeder will hold her till spring.... This is fate right ??

:o

I've asked for a couple more pics and off to view

Your bad influences!! Lol I've no interest in any other foal and j swore I'd never get another bay.... Yep, she's bay!!

hope im ok to post the above?.....

just wanted opinions as its not something im going into lightly!!

Life is for living.

I would want them nearer me sooner than you are planning tho. I slightly wonder if you are missing the handling etc and that's why you are tempted this other one... You couldn't get a field nearer to keep them both and do them yourselves? They don't need handling every single day, just regularly good manners training etc.

not this side of christmas im afraird!.... i could in jan/feb and get them both together (again living away from me)

im not kidding when i say theres no such thing as grass livery near me that i can confidently not go down daily.... for the next 6 months i don't want to do the daily commute - which sounds awful but which is why my other one is on livery!

Im going to sleep on it.... not rushing into this so will let it play on my mind for a bit :)

Noodles - i am the same as you - i have found a horse that looks so much like my big lad.... i have cracked and texted about him tonight - half of me wants them to say he is sold.... so i won;t have to think of what to do if he isnt.

If you can afford it, and promise not to compare the new one to your lost one - then go for it
